It is with great sadness that the family of REX HURD ANDERSON announce his passing on January 19, 2023 in Cardston, Alberta. Rex is survived by his wife Joanne of 59 years and his five children: Kevin (Michell) Anderson, Sandra (Jeff) Smith, Colin Anderson, Darcy (Laura) Anderson, and Jody (Stephen) Poettcker. He also leaves behind his beloved 19 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He is predeceased by his parents Irvin and Edith Anderson and his four siblings Heber (Doreen) Anderson, Gladys (Max) Davidson, Dean (Maydell) Anderson, and Boyd (Betty) Anderson.
Rex was born January 2, 1936 in Barnwell, Alberta where he resided most of his life. He was the youngest of five children and the only one of four brothers to choose a career other than farming. After serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in South Africa, Rex attended BYU in Provo where he completed the first couple years of his education. He returned home and secured a job in Vauxhall teaching school. During this time he met Joanne (Salmon) through a mutual friend and they were married on August 21, 1963. Rex returned to BYU where he completed his undergraduate degree in physics and a master’s in education administration. Rex and Joanne moved to Barnwell with their first two kids and Rex worked at WR Myers for 29 years teaching Physics and Math.
Rex was an active member of his church and community. He served in many different
positions over the years showing love and kindness to all those he came in contact with. Rex and Joanne both loved to garden and made a great team in producing large amounts of fruit and vegetables to feed their family and many members of the community. Rex loved to build things and always had a project going on. He also loved music, mastering many different instruments over the years and participating in choir and a men’s quartet. Anyone familiar with Rex also knew of his semi-obsession with golf. He loved being out on the golf course with his friends, usually year round. Most of all, Rex will be remembered for his warm laugh, contagious smile and listening ear.
We would like to thank Dr Low and the staff at Lee Crest Cottage #2, the EMS staff and the staff at Cardston Hospital who took care of Rex this past year.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell, Alberta on Friday, January 27th at 11:00 a.m.
Friends and relatives may meet the family from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow at the Barnwell Cemetery.
