RONALD VIRDEN ARCHIBALD was born October 8, 1935, in Cardston, AB. He attended Glenwood School and then attended SAIT vocational training school in Calgary. He helped his father on the farm in his early years. He was very athletic and became a great basketball and softball player. He loved fishing and hunting and spent many hours in the mountains and on the oceans and rivers. He had many friends and enjoyed playing cards and visiting. He always had a joke ready to make everyone laugh.
He married his high school sweetheart, Fae Dawn Shipley who was also raised in Glenwood. They started their married life in Calgary and he became a pressure welder and taught farmers all over Alberta how to weld. They moved back to Glenwood to be farmers. Ron and Dawn have 2 children: Debra Jean Johnson (Kevin) and Brad Archibald (Lesa).
Ron got his pilot’s license and owned a small plane. He would take annual trips to Alaska to fish with friends and bring home fish to share. Ron also was chairman of the United Irrigation District for over 20 years. Ron and Dawn have 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. They served a mission in 2010-2012 in Fiji. Ron was a devoted temple worker and loved to serve there. He was a gentle, kind, husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed.
A viewing will be held at Legacy Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 20th from 9:30 am - 10:30 am. (In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions a limited number will be permitted in the viewing at a time.) A Private Family Service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at the Glenwood Cemetery.
