GERALDINE SCHNEIDER DYE BECKER, was born 20 November 1934, the youngest of 4 children born to Hermann Paul Schneider and Elizabetha Maria Barbara Margaretha Fromm Schneider. She was born in the back of her maternal grandparent’s jewelry store. She grew up on a farm North East of Raymond, Alberta, Canada and attended school and church in the town of Raymond. She was always interested in nursing and started working at the Raymond hospital when she was about 17 years old. In 1952 She went to Idaho Falls to pursue her nursing degree. A part of that time was spent in Blackfoot where she met Lary Eldon Dye, son of Myron John Dye and Lucy Jane Jensen Dye. They were married in the Cardston Alberta temple on 12 September 1956. They are the parents of 8 children, her posterity also includes 42 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
They lived in Lethbridge until their youngest was about 1.5 years old; and then in 1974 they moved to a small farm North West of Raymond; just a few miles west from where she grew up. It was a good move for everyone. Lary died 22 December 1995 and in January of 1997 she married Wilhelm (Willi) Becker and he became a part of our family. For the first while, Geraldine was in Raymond and Willi was in Germany and they would take turns spending time with each other back and forth. That got to be too difficult and so she moved to Germany to be with Willi until he retired; and then in 2001 they moved back to Raymond. Being away from her family was hard, but she came to visit a few times and we all had fax machines and could send messages back and forth, faster than mail and cheaper than phone calls. Since then, Geraldine has filled her life with service to everyone she has ever met. They have taken many opportunities to attend special family events, like marriages, graduations, baby blessing and baptisms; for every child, grandchild, and great grandchild; that’s in excess of 105 Family members. Family was a very important part of her life. Geraldine and Willi loved to visit their family. However, in the last year or two; health has, as Mom says, “Clipped their wings.” Mom says her mind is still young enough to do all the things she used to do, but her body won’t agree.
Geraldine has lived a Christ like life and been an example for all of us to follow. Some of her most amazing accomplishments are: she has served actively in the Cardston Temple for more than 10 years. Geraldine has made in excess of 50 quilts for children and grandchildren. Canned thousands of jars of food, and provided thousands of meals for those in need. Geraldine will truly be missed by us; but welcomed with open arms by loved ones on the other side.
She is survived by: Kelly Smith (Dale), Shane (Cindy), Sandra Hansen (Tom), Richard (Faye), Robert (Marla), Robin Nasol, (Gary), and Bonnie Cook (Mark). Preceded in death by her first husband Lary Eldon Dye, and son Myron “Ronnie” (Susan).
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taylor Street Chapel in Raymond, AB on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Friends may meet the family at the Church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service. Interment to follow in the Temple Hill Cemetery.
