His parents are Elizabeth and the late Peter Big Head Sr. Shawn passed away in Lethbridge, AB., on Monday, January 4th, 2021, at the age of 42 years. Shawn grew up in Standoff, Alberta and is a member of the Kainai Nation. Shawn’s father, Peter Sr. (Maistaakatsi) was a member of the Sacred Horn Society and he taught Shawn and all his children sacred Kainai values. Shawn was very active in his home community on the Blood Reserve.
As a child, Shawn participated in rodeo and minor hockey. He sang gospel songs with his family and travelled many places throughout Western Canada and the USA for gatherings. He loved the Calgary Flames and was active in many sports throughout school such as football, basketball and outdoor ground hockey. After high school, Shawn studied at the University of Lethbridge and was well known as an active tutor in math. He was always willing to tutor his friends and other students. Many of his fellow students who went on to graduate from the U of L, thank Shawn for helping them with their math courses. Shawn was always very warm and welcoming and quick with a friendly greeting to make you laugh.
Shawn liked to watch CSI shows and could be found watching a Corner Gas marathon. He was caring and loved his mother and little brother, the late PJ (Peter Big Head Jr.), whom he showed his love by always looking out for them and making sure they were doing well. Shawn was gentle, loved his family, and always asked how everyone was doing. He checked on others and shared whatever he had.
