BIG SORREL HORSE - CROW CHIEF
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Delia Big Sorrel Horse-Crow Chief
(Ikiinaipotaki-Gentle Flying Woman). Delia was born June 24, 1983 and passed away January 20, 2023 at the age of 39.
Delia is survived by her children Jersey, Conroy, Ethan, Leon, and Storm. Parents Victoria Big Sorrel Horse and Clinton Crow Chief. Siblings Anna, Corey and Crystal. Paternal Grandfather Charlie (Betty) Crow Chief. Maternal Aunts and Uncles Stanley Big Sorrel Horse, Shelly Big Sorrel Horse, Sherri Big Sorrel Horse, Ivy Big Sorrel Horse, and Kurt Big Sorrel Horse. Paternal Aunts and Uncles Calvin (Geraldine) Crow Chief, Trina (Bruce) Tallow, Charlotte Tallow and Andrew Bull Calf. And numerous cousins and extended family.
Delia was born and raised on Clinton and Vicky’s ranch. When she was younger she was always exploring the coulees and creeks with her siblings and cousins around her childhood home. She would often help her dad and uncle Leonard take care of the horses. And during the summer time, weekends and holidays Delia would often spend her time with all her cousins at Grandpa Gilbert and Grandma Beatrice and uncle Stan’s house exploring and going on adventures. Her nickname given to her by her cousins aka “Bros” was Dipps. Anyone who knows Delia by this name knows how she got the name. At a young age she participated in local pow wows in the fancy dance category. One summer she entered a long distance race during the annual Levern Track and Field and ran the whole race in her sandals and placed winning some prize money. Her grandmother Beatrice and aunt Ivy were there to witness her accomplishment. Delia and her siblings helped their parents at Sundance and took care of their camp while Vicky and Clinton were busy in the Centre Tipi. In 2000 she met the father of her children TJ Eagle Child and they started a family soon after.
Delia attended school at Standoff Elementary, Middle School, Kainai High School, Red Crow College Main and off Campus. She also did Life Skills training. Her favorite subject throughout her schooling was English and she dreamed of becoming an English teacher.
Her work consisted of doing various custodian jobs and working with her mother Vicky at the BTA and other Blood Tribe Departments.
Delia was a devoted mother to her children, she loved them all very much. She had a special relationship with her daughters Jersey and Storm. Her kind, humble, and caring nature was shown to many people that came into her life. When she lived in townsite she would often feed and care for community members that needed help, her door was always open to those in need. Delia was the type of person that would give the shirt off her back or give her last meal to someone in need.
Delia had a love of doing her makeup and dressing in nice clothes. One of her favorite things to do after giving herself a makeover was to take many selfies and post on Facebook.
Delia will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
