BLACK FACE
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, MAUD “Siikapinakii” BLACK FACE nee Wolf Child, who passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Cardston Hospital on February 24, 2020.
Maud is survived by her children: Gordon Black Face, Mary (Mike) Weasel Head and Barbara (Gilbert) Weasel Fat, and George Knife. Adopted children: Patrick and Sylvia Bare Shin Bone and Stan and Rose Hairy Bull. Grandchildren: Leanne (Medric) Eagle Plume, Heather (Byron) Crying Head, Melanie Wolf Child, Celina (Cory) Panther Bone, Jamie Heavy Runner, Lana (Lance) Healy, Stacey (Patti) Sunwalk, Marvin Jr., Charmaine, Chad Many Chiefs, Kashton (Ashley) Sunwalk, Marisa and Cheyenne Many Chiefs, Craig and Brandon Wolf Child. Brothers: John Wolf Child and Philip Sr. (Julianna) Wolf Child and 49 great grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.
Maud was born on August 29, 1933 to Edward and Bibianne (Sundance) Wolf Child. She grew up in the Standoff area on the Blood Reserve. Maud attended St. Mary’s Residential school and worked numerous jobs in Magrath and Vauxhall. At the age of 18 years old, she met her soul mate and beloved husband George Black Face and together they raised their seven children and grandchildren. George and Maud were seldom apart and lived life together side by side until his passing in 2003.  She was also his personal nurse as she cared for George after he became ill in 1961.
Maud’s greatest legacy was her family. She was the foundation of her family and stressed the importance of having a close-knit family. Maud was an exceptional homemaker who took the title of wife and mother seriously and did all she could to care for her family. She was an outstanding cook and took pride in the dinners she served to her family. As well, Maud was a creative lady who loved to sew and was a brilliant seamstress. Maud had a unique and special bond with all her children and grandchildren, and she made sure that she was at all their functions and special achievements. All her family knew that grandma’s home was their safe haven and the central point of most of the family gatherings.
Maud was a very spiritual and humble lady; she had a great belief in the Creator. In 1995 she made her cursillo, the first and only Elder’s cursillo hosted on the Blood Tribe. She also attended the Sundance yearly and was proud and supportive when her daughter and son in law, Beverly and Marvin, and granddaughter and grandson in law, Lana and Lance, and great grandson, Tate, joined the Horn Society. She also made frequent trips with her children, Gordon, Mary and Barbara and their families to Lac St. Anne.
Maud was a humble, gentle and firm lady. She was humorous when you least expected it and always put a smile on her loved one’s face. She truly was an example of what a lady was and instilled these values into her family.
Maud was predeceased by her husband, George, children: Rosabelle Wolf Child, James (Gwen) Wolf Child, Beverly (Marvin) Many Chiefs, Roger (Clara) Wolf Child, Rose (Frank) Eagle Plume and Maxine Knife, sister, Isabelle Wolf Child, brother, Jerry Wolf Child, grandchildren: Gordon Jr. Wolf Child and Natasha Hairy Bull and numerous great great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Justin and Brian Low and nurses: Travis, Van, Renee K., Taylor, Mel, Brenda T., Sandy, Polly, Holly, Colleen, Maddy, Drew and Sidney for the exceptional care, compassion and dignity they gave our beloved mother and grandmother in her final days.
