CAROLYN DIANN BROOKS, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 12th 2022 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Carolyn was a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend.
She was predeceased by her husband Fred Jackson Brooks and her parents Peter Joseph Spear and Florence Canedia Bailey Knowles Spear. Carolyn is survived by her children Karin (James) Boulter, Daniel (Ellen) Brooks, Dallin (Sariah) Brooks, Spencer Hugh (Lillian) Brooks and Nathan (Megan) Brooks. Also Terisa Brooks, Mary Lyn (Keith) Wigg , Darrel Brooks, Dale (Amanda) Brooks, Scott (Jennefer) Johnson, and her siblings Herb Spear, Donna Spear, Peter (Barb) Spear. Many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.
Carolyn was born May 28th, 1943. Carolyn was the youngest of the four siblings and grew up in the Mount Royal area of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. As a young child she loved the arts, drama, dancing and singing and modeling, this continued to be a love of hers for the rest of her life. Her family fostered her love of the outdoors by spending their time hosting guests at hostels, and time at Castle Mountain in Banff National Park. She attended University of Calgary graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Carolyn was a woman of faith and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969. She loved to serve her fellowman and share her faith with everyone she met. She served many missions for the Church starting with a service mission with Fred building the Mount Timpanogos Temple, Utah and then later as a senior sister in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission, Australia Melbourne mission, Texas Dallas/FortWorth mission and Nauvoo Mission. She also was a service missionary at the Cardston Alberta Temple before her cancer diagnosis.
In 1971 she met Fred and they married in 1972 this started the grand adventure. This journey included many hunting trips, moves and business adventures, traveling all over the world. They loved a good story and have many legends about their life. After Fred died Carolyn embarked on the adventure herself, not one to settle down Carolyn stated often that she was a gyspy at heart. Crystal Lake Resort and Vanderhoof holds a dear place in her life as this was where she raised her kids during summers and hunting season. Carolyn also called HillSpring Home since 1983 no matter where she travelled. She met many kindred spirits where ever she roamed and many call her a dear friend. Carolyn was especially grateful when she got her diagnosis to call Dwight and Dixie Davis who welcomed her to their home,as they did many years ago, with the time she had left.
Carolyn’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hill Spring, Alberta chapel. Family and friends are invited to meet the family from 9:45 am to 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service in the Hill Spring Cemetery. The service will be on Zoom and a recording to watch will follow.
