Iikitopisskonaki, (aka) Iinio’khkinni, John Everett Bruised Head was born on July 18th, 1957 to Sadie Wadsworth and Everett Bruised Head at the Blood Indian Hospital, Cardston, Alberta. He passed away surrounded by his family at the Lethbridge Hospital on August 29th, 2022. John had just celebrated his 65th birthday.
He was predeceased by his soul mate Doris - Dorice Day Chief, his father Matsowapinamahka Everett Bruised Head, grandparents Annie & William Wadsworth, Genevieve & Pete Bruised Head, nephews Scotty Bruised Head, Blaine, Myron, nieces Shelly Wadsworth and cousins Leonard White Quills, Steven White Quills, Trevor Wadsworth, Tim Lankford, special friend Kenny Fox, holy brothers, Norbert Fox, Alvin Crosschild, Willie Black Plume.
In his youth he participated in rodeo, basketball, football and other minor sports. He was the first Bull Riding Champion at the first Rodeo Royale in Calgary Alberta, he was 14 years old and achieved numerous rodeo titles. John attended St. Mary’s Residential School and Day school in Levern on the Blood reserve. He also attended high school in Lodge Grass, Montana while living with his Crow – Cheyanne family. John drove the school bus for several years, was a truck driver for farmers and drove a gravel truck for Thunder Chief. He raised and trained his own horses, helped his brother-in-law on the Quarter Horse Racing Circuit. John and his holy brother Norbert were the keepers of the Ihtaipoot’totakihphiy’opi, he and his late wife Doris participated with the Sundancers for many years.
Johnny is survived by his mother Sadie Wadsworth-Many Fingers; sisters: Sandra, Genevieve (Roy) and Monica; brothers Phillip, Lucious (Pam), Winston (Marie), children, Deidrie (Steve), Dallas, Kristy (Tommy), Buck (Missy), Nelson (Paula), Cody, MayMie, William; step children: Leon, Cindy & Darcy Day Chief, Luke & Joel Small Eyes, Shalayne (Les) Wolf Child and Alexandra (John Knife) Small Eyes Weasel Head; grandchildren: Dannika, Denzel, Cale, Ashton, Trace, Doricia, Tommy Jr, Keevin, Koren, Logan, Kylo, Sierra, Selena, Stiorra, great grandchildren Shooter, Lorrenzo, Annika, Jada, Ezra, Dominick, Egsy; also Brothers and sisters Henry, Ivan, Blake, John and Veronica Small, Chester, Bruce, Delia, John, Perry, and Patsy Day Chief. He has numerous nieces, and nephews: Lynette (Kerry Scott), Barclay Fox (Tracy), Angie Fox, Waylon Little Bear, Buster (Tyler) Davis, Sunny Bruised Head, Nicole Romero. A Wake Service will be held at John Bruised Head’s Residence, Blood Reserve, AB on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will continue at John Bruised Head’s Residence on Friday, September 2, 2022 at noon with interment to follow at Bruised Head Family Cemetery, Blood Reserve, AB.
