DOROTHY LOUISE CAMERON, (nee: Rutherford) 83: wife, mother, grand & great grandmother, sister and friend, died peacefully at home in Cardston, Alberta on September 9, 2021
Dorothy grew up in rural Alberta and after marrying her husband, Allan raised their children in both Alberta and British Columbia. Although she and Al lived in many places including Edmonton, Calgary, Kelowna, New Zealand, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Glenwood, and Okotoks, upon retirement, they chose to make their home in Cardston Alberta.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Dorothy spent her life in service to her family and others. Most recently serving in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Dorothy took great pride in her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments and pursuits. She enjoyed travelling, but was happiest at coming home. Over the past year, her faith, hope and resilience inspired us to seek solace, understanding and peace through a closer relationship with our Savior and despite challenges, heartache and disappointment - to embrace the life we’re given. She will be remembered as a patient and devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, wonderful cook and for making her home a welcome and inviting place to come for a visit, especially during the holidays, or to take refuge in time of need.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 61 years, Allan and three children Robert (Shiralee) Cameron of High River, Alberta; Bradley (Laurie) Cameron, of Forest Green, Oregon and Carolyn (Cody) Bly of Rexburg, Idaho. Her grandchildren: Corey (Maayan) Cameron; Cassie (Danny) Crosby; Stephen Cameron; Kyle (Brooke) Cameron; Austin Bly; Kevin Cameron; Brogan (Willow) Bly; David Cameron; Janelle Bly; Emily Cameron; Jaynie Bly and 9 great-grandchildren. As well as, her siblings, Don Rutherford and Shirley Whitby.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Russel & Emily Rutherford; sister, Leona Petuskin and grandson, Christopher Cameron.
A private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in Cardston, Alberta followed by the graveside dedication and interment in the Village of Glenwood Cemetery.
The family asks that after a long year of separation from family and friends, you spend time with your children, appreciate the hope and beauty of a new day, forgive yourself or someone near and celebrate family and enduring friendships - lifelong and beyond.
We think that’s what Dorothy would have wanted…
A Family Service will be held on Wednesday, September 15th @1:00 p.m.
