Glen was born in Unity, Saskatchewan on November 27, 1929, right at the beginning of the great depression and the dirty thirties. His family were farmers and at a very young age he was taught the value of hard work, a characteristic that he carried with him throughout his life.
At the age of 21 he married the love of his life, Geniel Olsen, and they were blessed with seven children. Glen was a very devoted husband and father. He loved hiking, fishing, camping and playing with his family. We spent lots of time in the mountains, at the beach, and on the baseball diamond. We worked hard together and played hard together.
He was a mechanic at the Central Service Garage in Cardston for many years where he later became the manager of the parts department until his retirement.
Glen had an incredible love for the outdoors and became an avid scouter where he was a great leader and mentor to many young men.
He was also a master gardener and loved putting his hands in the soil. He always had a beautiful, fertile garden and was very generous in sharing it. Until he was 88 years old, he planted a garden every year that flourished and provided many of his family members, neighbors, and friends with vegetables.
Glen was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and gave a lifetime of service to the Lord and to all around him. He and Geniel were able to serve a mission in Ireland where they grew to love many people and made many friends. They were also able to visit his ancestors’ native land of Scotland while there.
Glen loved children and loved to play with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The legacy of love that he leaves is one that will be forever cherished. He will be sadly missed. We love you dad!
