Lucien Maurice Crane Chief, beloved brother to Wanda “Dolly” Crane Chief and Kelly Crane Chief and nephew to Uncle Clarence Crane Chief, passed away on April 26, 2023, in Calgary, AB at the age of 49 years. Lucien was born on January 18, 1974 to the late Clara Crane Chief and Morris DesJarlais in Cardston, Alberta. Lucien is survived by his nephew’s Phillip (Cezary) Aberdeen and Cobin Crane Chief, great niece baby Naomi Aberdeen. Aunt’s Rita Many Fingers, Elizabeth (Martin) Vielle, uncle Stanley (Rose) Hairy Bull, relatives Evelyn Across The Mountain, Christine (Melvin) White Man, Bernie (Lisa) Crane Chief, Shannon, Audrey, Gerald, Marcella Crying Head, Doreen Mikaya Crane Chief, Rolanda, Trevor (Kristen) Crane Chief, Marvin (Shayla), Josie, Jodi Crane Chief, Charlene (Alan) Rowland, Harvey Many Fingers, Lorraine (Barry) Many Fingers, Jennifer, Terrill Crying Head, Morgan, Eleanor Vielle, Lillian (Ben) Scout. Lucien was predeceased by his parent’s, Clara and Morris, grandparent’s Dan and Eileen Crane Chief, nephew’s Jacy, Preston, Anthony Crane Chief, nieces, Marilyn Crying Head and Abigail Aberdeen, aunt’s Linda, Bernice, Doreen, Sherry and Karen Crane Chief, uncle’s Martin, Daniel, Jonas, Douglas, Roland (Vivian), Cory Crane Chief, Calvin and Leon Across The Mountain. Great uncle Martin (Theresa) Hairy Bull, great aunt’s Celina Rabbit, Cecil (Roger) Across The Mountain. Lucien grew up in the Little Chicago area with his Crane Chief family. He was a fluent Blackfoot speaker and was very humorous. He could always turn a serious situation into a funny one with his humour and silly pranks. Lucien attended Lavern elementary school with Cousin Harvey. Lucien enjoyed writing poetry and liked eagles. Lucien would often run away from school, so he was then sent to live with the late Melvin Wadsworth family and was given the name “Kyaayapii.” When Melvin would see the family in town he would often ask, “where is Kyaayapii?” Although Lucien had a tough upbringing he often looked out for his younger cousin’s, he would make his way to Glenwood to get them something to eat. After Lucien left the Little Chicago area, he often made sure to call home to sister Dolly and inquire about family and let her know he was okay. Lucien will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
A Wake Service will be held at Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Friday, May 12 from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Senator Gladstone Hall on Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in Pioneer Cemetery, Levern, AB.
