It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Piitasahkomapi Nicholas Riley Crazy Bull who left us suddenly on May 2, 2020. Nick was the son of the late Allison Crazy Bull. He was born on January 23, 2001. His siblings are Raven, Connor & Miikah. Nick is also survived by his uncles; Daniel (Randa) Crazy Bull, Wesley (Jody) Crazy Bull, George (Leah) Calling Last, Merlin, Ernie Calling Last, Adrian Jr. Calling Last, Andrew Bull Calf, Jonathan Weasel Bear
Aunties; Shelley Crazy Bull, Noreen (Wesley) Gros Ventre Boy, Julie Crazy Bull, Beverly(Rick) Crazy Bull, Sandra (Jason) Manyfeathers, Deloris Bull Calf as well as the extended families of the Crazy Bull and Calling Last families.
Allison passed away in 2014, prior to her passing, she spent birthdays, and other special occasions such as Christmas and Easter with Nick and his other siblings. Allison loved to buy her children gifts and spend as much time as she could with them. Nick and Allison had a close bond. When Allison passed away Nick was 13 years old. Her passing had a huge impact on his life. Nicholas was also very close to his aunties Cheyanne, Fay and Melanie. Cheyanne lovingly called him Nickelodeon and had a fund set up for him and his siblings. Melanie has treasured memories as well, which she will share here today.
Despite the difficulty Nick faced in life, he was always optimistic that it would get better in time. Nick had a deep respect for his Blackfoot roots. He was mentored by Tico Iron Shirt in the ways of Kanatsomita, a warrior society in Kainai. It was these teachings that helped to ground Nick on his difficult days. Nick was loved by everyone that was fortunate to have worked with him. He was that kid that left an impact on everyone he met. When he would have a melt down his supporters knew that he would come around if they just took the time to listen. Many of his supporters like Ashley McKenzie and Myles Bruised Head knew that he just needed that listening ear, a smoke, can of pop and he would be ok. Nick was always very grateful for the time that they spent with him and the difference they made in his life. Nick was blessed to have had Faye Heavy Shields in his life, whom he lovingly referred to as “grandma.” Faye’s sister Evelyn and her husband Les also had tremendous love for Nick. Faye took Nick to see Evelyn who transferred him the name Piitasahkomapi (Eagle Boy). The blessing of a Blackfoot name is a huge honour bestowed on an individual. A Blackfoot name gave honour to both his physical and spiritual being. This is perhaps the greatest gift among the many gifts that Nick received from Grandma Faye. The most important people in Nicks life were his siblings and he would want them to know that his wishes for them are to live well and succeed in their life aspirations. Although earthly death came all too soon for Nicholas, we take comfort knowing that his Spirit lives on. May his unique attributes serve as a living legacy for all that had the privilege of knowing him. May the impact that he had on in our lives serve as the catalyst to make a difference in the lives of those that need it most.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all Nicks support workers and friends. You impacted Nicks life in a positive way. You made a difference in his life. May the love that you gave to Nick and the time that you spent listening to him be your blessing today.
