Sheldon was raised on the Blood Indian Reserve in the communities of Standoff, Moses Lake and Levern. In his early years Sheldon and brothers were raised by their grandparents the late Stephen and Bertha Crying Head. It is then that Sheldon learned his positive work ethics which contributed to his many successes in his life. Sheldon attended the Cardston Elementary School, St Francis Jr high school in Lethbridge and Kainai High School. In his later years he attended Red Crow Community College then transferred to Lethbridge Community College where he completed his carpentry certificate. After completing his education he went on to become a contractor for the Blood Tribe Housing, where he participated in building many of the new homes on the reserve. Sheldon was very proud of the work he did for FCSS, building ramps for the elders and special needs. He then left the reserve to further his employment with the BTC Construction and Triple M, which manufactured homes. His perfectionism for carpentry was visible in the jobs he completed.
Sheldon enjoyed many different sports which included basketball, volleyball, golf, pool, but fastball was his passion. Growing up Sheldon and the boys were surrounded by a family of ball players. Both his Crying Head and Rabbit family influenced his love for ball, Sheldon followed in his father and uncle’s footsteps as a member of the family team – The Lavern Blues. His team was well-known for winning many championships across Canada and the United States, where he received numerous awards as an outfielder. Sheldon was always a vivid participant in fundraising or any events that had to do with fastball. The Kainai Indian Days fastball tournament was a highlight for Sheldon; it was where the boys all got a chance to get together. Sheldon was the life of the party, his loudness; his laughter and his joking around will be missed on and off the field.
We are comforted knowing that Sheldon will be with family gone before him, His Grand Parents; Steve and Bertha Crying Head and Joe and Celina Rabbit, his father Curtis Joseph Rabbit, Uncles; James, Joseph, Michael, Homer and Robert Rabbit, Aunties; Nellie, Sylvia, Geradine and Theresa Crying Head, Jodi Day Chief, Miss Heavy Head, Cousins; Mickey and Dustin Day Rider.
