2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good life, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
On February 22, 2021 our beloved Tanya Christi Marie Curly Rider-Bird was called home by our Heavenly Father, at the age of 41 years old. Tanya was born on February 21, 1980 to Pauline Curly Rider and Gary Bird. Tanya grew up in Little Chicago, Blood Reserve with her mother and extended family. She went to Cardston school from elementary to high school and graduated in 1998. Her Aunt Molly and Uncle Roderick played a very important role in her life and she came to know them as mom and dad. She was a fun-loving little girl and had so many older cousins who would help take care of her. Tanya enjoyed growing up surrounded by her family and loved attending church and camp-meetings, where she found her love of singing and praising God. She traveled throughout her life sharing songs, testimony, meeting many people she came to acknowledge as family, and traveled with her dad Gary to North Dakota, South Dakota, and Idaho for church services. Tanya was also known for her love of high heels, always being beautifully dressed and hair done so nice. She was often laughing, being silly, and the family had lots of stories of the crazy and fun times they had on many of their travels together.
Tanya had two beautiful girls, Maggie and Alex whom she adored and loved and did her best to care for them. She lived in Arizona and New Mexico with her girls but returned home and moved to Calgary in 2014 then moved back home in 2017 just before she had her stroke. She worked for Get Assist in Calgary for 2 years. She also attended Rebecca and Bible David’s church from 2013-2017 and was part of the choir there. Several years ago, Tanya suffered a stroke and although she had limited mobility, she moved into an apartment with her girls. During her last year with her girls, she often posted on Facebook the times she would bake a cake or cook. If you followed any local buy and sell pages, you would often see her trying to purchase limited baked goods and meals. Tanya also had a special bond with both her niece Marlee and nephew Kaiden. She always spoiled her nieces and nephews. Instead of calling her niece Marlee she had a special name Leemar. She had a huge role in raising her niece Micah, she was known as auntie/mom.
Tanya is survived by her daughters, Maggie and Alex; Parents, Gary (Joyce) Bird; siblings, Sharla (Patrick Bearhat) Calf Robe, Terrance (Mandy Twigg) Bird, Richard and Sam Calf Robe, Pamela (Peter) Noskey, Gary Jr (Kelly) Bird, Lucky (Dana) Bird, Brittany (Lance) Bird, and Deidrie (Clint) Three Persons, Nathan (Tiffany) Calf Robe; nieces Micah, Danielle, Caelen, Kessler, Marquel, Marlee, Kaleb, Kaiden, Kira, Alayah, Carley, Jay, Rayzilee, Ryland, Saydie and Starly.
Tanya was predeceased by her parents Pauline Curly Rider and Winston Bird; maternal Grandparents Jack and Maggie Curly Rider, paternal grandparents Bill and Annie Bird; Auntie-mom Molly Calf Robe and Dad (uncle Roderig Shot Both Sides);
We’ll miss Tanya and her amazing voice, but we rejoice knowing God has her in his arms. Tanya was an anointed woman of God and often traveled to share her gift of song and testimony. She met many wonderful people and we want to thank all who cared and loved our Tanya and we ask that you keep her girls, siblings, and family in prayer.
A Viewing will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and Wednesday March 3 from 9:00 - 11:00 am with a Family Service to follow at 11:00 am. (Due to COVID-19 - Limited people will be allowed in the building at a time.) Interment to follow at Pioneer Cemetery.
