DAYLEN LYLE RHYS DAY CHIEF “Iissiimohkitopi”- (Fearless Rider)
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Daylen Lyle Rhys Day Chief of Standoff Ab. on Oct. 16, 2019 at the tender age of 16. Daylen was born on Oct. 14, 2003 to LuAnn Bird and the late Kerry Day Chief. He was raised and cared for by Edna Bird (mother). Daylen loved and cherished the time he spent with his other parents; Clarence and Trish Black Water, MichelleWhite Man Left and Terrence Black Fore Head, and Darcie Vielle and TJ Ramsey.
Daylen was an excellent athlete: he competed in numerous sports including volleyball, badminton, floor hockey, slo-pitch, track & field, cross country, and his passion for basketball. Daylens love for basketball started at a very young age and his accomplishments throughout his basketball career was a reflection of the numerous hours spent on the court. Many days and nights were spent at the Multi Purpose where he created friendships and special bonds with everyone around. Two inspirational role models whom Daylen looked up to for their basketball talents were his uncle Chad Creighton and his cousin Colin Bird. He
sported the number 6 to recognize the pride he had for his uncle Chad. Some of his basketball accomplishments include; Southwest Jr High League Championship from 2016-2019, South Zone 3J Championship, Gold medal Champions from 2017-2019 at both the Alberta Indigenous Games and the Siksika March Madness, and most recently the 2019 Calgary Stampede Championship Showdown. These awards were won while being apart of the following teams; Tatsikiisaapo’p Eagles, Kainai Warriors and the Blood Tribe Recreation Team Kainai. During his time as a member of the Blood Tribe Recreation basketball club, he competed against numerous teams from across Southern Alberta and Montana. Daylen was also a proud member of the Blood Tribe Recreation Aokakasiiksi Club, this was another area of recognition, Cross Country. He was noticed for his talent at the Indigenous games and earned a spot on the Team Alberta Athletics for the 2020 North American Indigenous Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Daylen was a true friend and usually dropped everything at a moments notice to be supportive or just to listen. He encouraged his friends to stay away from drugs and alcohol, as he did. He was never afraid to show his love with lots of hugs to all. Daylen liked to visit the boys and would often be up all night playing fortnite on multiple tv’s, and a favorite, wrestling at school or at Rumpa and Trish’s place. During his spare time Daylen liked riding atv’s, going to the movies and cruising with the boys. Daylen had such a kind heart and never hesitated to help those in need. Many adoptive parents he was blessed with, was a true reflection of his character. Goodbyes are not forever, Goodbyes are not the end, they simply mean I’ll miss you, until we meet again.
