It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Shay Patrick Christopher Eagle Child (Twigg). Shay was called home on Saturday, February 19, 2023 in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the age of 33 years old.
He leaves to mourn, his children Kayson and Kashlynn Twigg; his father Patrick Thomas Eagle Child; grandmother Diane Twigg; his aunty and best friend Trisha Twigg; his god parents Carey Twigg and Lucille First Rider; god mothers Bettyann and Simone Big Throat; Shay also leaves behind his uncles Christopher (Leanna), Carey (Tashina) and Colin (Vanessa) Twigg, Corey (Marilyn) Good Striker, Campbell (Arlene), Cyril (Patty), Lloyd (Shirley), Winslow and Evans Eagle Child; his Aunties Delores (Roy) Big head, Rasemarie (Jim), Vivian and patty June Eagle Child.
Shay was the only child born to Patrick Thomas Eagle Child and the late Loriann Eagle Child (Twigg) on May 7, 1989 in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Shay grew up in Stand Off and in the Old Agency. He loved spending time with his grandmother, as he was her favorite. The two were inseparable. They shared everlasting love and a bond. Wherever Shay and Loriann would be, Diane and Trisha were never to far away. As a only child, Shay was fortunate enough to grow up along side many of his cousins. This included spending many times with his cousins, later would become many of his special siblings. They would spend many moments swimming, skating, boarding, playing floor hockey, family BBQs and playing video games. Shay was also a favorite to all his uncles, Colin, Chris and Caey and their children, Shay’s siblings Aaron, Natasha, the late Tyler, Alexandra, Cherish, Yancy, Taven, hailey, Paisley and Chante Twigg. Also Clayton and the late Tommy Eagle Child.
Shay was baptized at 3 months old in the Catholic Church in Stand Off. He was a devoted catholic, his faith he kept close and near to his heart. He attended church regularly and said the rosaries with his grandmothers Bibiane and Diane Twigg. He always had a rosary on and in hand.
Shay attended school in Stand Off, Fort Macleod and Lethbridge, Alberta. He enjoyed playing hockey and attending school, as he made many friends, a trait he carried as he got older, having many friends young and old.
Shay enjoyed taking family trips with his parents often to B.C., Toronto, Kalispell, Edmonton, Lac Saint Anne and also to Pow-Wows. At one time taking interest in dancing. Shay also shared the same creative mind and artistic talent like his mother and uncle Carl Twigg. He enjoyed writing poetry, creating, composing and reciting music. Sharing many songs with many friends and his brothers Aaron and Tyler Twigg. Shay was a very talented artist, gifting many portraits, paintings and drawings.
Shay loved hanging out at home with family, playing cards, board games and listening to music. He loved to cook and bake, a skill shared from both parents.
Shay me his companion and the mother of his children in 2010, the late Joey-Tiah English. Together they shared a home in Lethbridge, Alberta. They had their son Kayson Carl Twigg on September 19, 2011 in Lethbridge and then Kashlynn Faye twigg on January 11, 2014 also in Lethbridge. These were the proudest moments for Shay. He had found the Joys and Loves of his life. Together Shay and Joey attended Red Crow Community College, Life Skills, also they had worked at the Calgary Stampede in the summers.
In Shays life time he was employed to the Kainai Forage Plant, Cardston housing, Triple M Housing, The Queen’s Bar in Fort Macleod, and odd jobs around the community.
Shay will be missed by all that knew him, he had many friends and cousins too numerous to mention. Shay also leaves behind his great aunties and uncle Linda (Darell) Three Persons, Nora (Roy), Betty ann, Pam (Colin), Wanda, Doris and Henry (Betty) Big Throat. As he shared a special bond with each of them. His extended family includes Big Throats, Twiggs, Hindbulls, Eagle Plumes, Chief Moons, Paces, Healys and Eagle Childs.
Shay was predeceased by his mother Loriann Eagle Child (Twigg), his paternal grandparents Bibiane and Patrick Eagle Child, his maternal grandfather Christopher Twigg; uncles Carl George Twigg, Melvin and Tiny Big Throat, Roland Eagle Child; aunty Rosaline Eagle Child; cousins Taylin Twigg and Tavaiyah Medicine Crane, Layton Twigg, Russell, Charly and Tania Big Throat; brothers Tyler Twigg and Tommy Eagle Child.
A Wake Service will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Friday March 3, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Catherine’s cemetery.
