
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our Matriarch Margaret Eagle Plume (Paayotapaomaahka) March 3, 2023, at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, ICU surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Mom was born on April 28, 1952, at Cardston Indian Hospital to the late Alfred and Maggie (nee Shot Both sides) Eagle Plume.
Mom will be sadly missed by her husband of 53 years Joseph (Joe) Knife and her children Joyce (Donald) Wolf Child, Wanda (Andrew) Day Chief, Pamela, Monica (Robert) Beebe, Deanna (Kelly) Day Chief, Alisha (Latrell) Young Pine, Joseph Jr (Reesa), Kevin (Chelsea) Eagle Plume and Terry Knife. She also leaves behind 28 grandchildrens, 18 great grandchildren 2 more on the way mom was very excited when she got the news!
She leaves behind her only surviving sibling whom she loved very much Louise Eagle Plume as well as her adopted brother Merlin (Lorna) Eagle Plume. Mom was a mother to her nieces and nephews, Leanne and Family, Heather (Byron) Crying Head, Joey (Beverly) Eagle Plume, Marlene, Kenny (Sharon) Eagle Plume, Miranda (Alan) Quesnelle and Yvette Red Crow, Steven (Deidre) Curly Rider Tracy Big Sorrel Horse, Tamra Big Sorrel Horse, Charmaine Big Sorrel Horse; Including the Cat Face family, Sandra, Aillen, Karen, Robin, Ann Marie and Thomas (Nadine) White Man. Mom’s adopted children Leon Day Chief, Pam Black Plume, Sandie Weasel Fat and Christy Good Stricker. Her In Laws who she loved Edward (Tammy), John (Jackie), Richard (Yvette), Knife, Evangeline Provost and Jack Curly Rider.
Mom attended St. Mary’s Residential School, Day School, Glenwood and Hill Spring School and Life skills program.
She began her employment with Joyce Bruised Head in the Red crow Arts and Craft. There was Clara Shot Both Sides, Late Josephine Curly Rider Joanne Wolf Child and Mary Alice Eagle Plume. In this they made jewelry out of caribou then the jewelry was sent up north to Thunder Bay, Yellowknife, Japan and Over Seas.
Mom received her Custodian certificate in 1998 with late Elizabeth Scout. She then began her employment as a custodian at the Old Indian Hospital along with her sister Louise and cousin Annie Devine. She continued in this career at the Standoff Health Centre, Kainai Continuing Care and Red Crow College. Mom’s final Place of employment as a custodian was with Kainai Board of Education for where she worked till her retirement. She later became a PAC member for Kainai Board of Education. Our mom made many lifelong friends throughout her places of employment.
Mom’s favorite Sports was Baseball, she enjoyed playing with her sisters, friends and cousins. Late Mary Alice, Rosebell, Edna Bare Shin Bone, Caroline Hind Bull. Also, she was a fast runner in her younger days, mom was also a barrel racer along with her sisters. Mom was very shy but after getting to know you she would open up and show her warm personality and reveal her fun, silly side.
Mom and Dad traveled throughout the States along with Jack and Josephine Curly Rider her sister Mary Alice and Steven Crying Head. On this particular trip they encountered a few tornados along the way. She enjoyed her trips and would often share stories of her travels. Mom enjoyed going berry picking with the late Paul and Mary Stella Bare Shin Bone.
Mom’s favorite past time was spending it with her family. When she had some down time, she would bead make moccasins and Ribbon skirts as requested for family and friends. Mom was very proud when wanda and Andrew joined the Horn Society, every year she would make ribbon dresses and Andrew ribbon shirts, also with Kyra she would make her ribbon dresses before Sundance was prod of her joining the Sundance (Brave Dog Society). Mom looked forward to family barbeques at Spring Glen and family at gatherings. She was devoted to her Husband, Children and Grandchildren. Mom was a very gentle, caring and humble women. Everyone could always turn to her, and she would have a shoulder for them to cry on. Mom was a very proud grandma whatever her grandkids accomplishments she was a big supporter to them.
Moms extended family include Shot Both Sides, Wolf Child, Across the Mountain, Bare Shin Bone, Crop Eared Wolf, Many Fingers, Annie Davis, Late Rachel Hoof, Low Horn, Long Time Squirrel, The Family apologizes for any names that they have missed.
She was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Maggie (nee Shot Both Sides). Her son Christian Knife, Grandkids, Justin Eagle Plume, Jalisa Pace, Keith Beebe. Brothers Alex, Joe, Herman and Patrick (Teresa) Eagle Plume. Her sisters Carrie (Mary Alice) Eagle Plume, Catherine (Jim) Red Crow and Josephine Curly Rider. Uncle Late Chief Jim (Annie) Shot Both Sides Her in-laws Jim, Maude Knife sister in-laws Theresa, Annie (Jonas)Fox, brother in-laws: Alec, Jim, Pete, Bill Knife Nieces: Darlene, Juanita, Baby Christiana Eagle Plume, Cherlynn Big Sorrel Horse, Marilyn Curly Rider Great grandsons (twins boys) Xavier, Josiah Pace, Cheryl Knife Nephews Freddy, Dexter, Darrell, Wesley Eagle Plume, Jimmy III Red Crow and Kenneth, Morris (Mickey) Knife.

A Wake Service will be held at Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Wednesday, March 15 from 7:00 - 11:00 pm and continuing all night at Margaret and Joe’s residence. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Church, Blood Reserve on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in Pioneer cemetery.
