Morton passed away at the Cardston hospital after a lengthy illness. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Cardston Hospital. Special thanks to Dr. Cole Leavitt and Dr. Gotto for their care and compassion this past year and a half.
Morton lived a long and accomplished life. He participated in numerous sports. Morton won title of “Golden Glove” in boxing in his high school year. He team roped and steer wrestled in the Chinook Rodeo Association and the I.R.CA Circuits. Morton was a World Champion Chicken dancer and won numerous titles all over the United States. He was part of his dad, Orton Eagle Speaker’s drum group. Morton was a rancher who owned cattle and his greatest passion was his many horses.
Morton was employed in various occupations during his life. Morton was one of the first employees at the Kainai Industries. He also worked for many years at the Blood Band Ranch with his favourite ranch hands. Morton was a grader operator with Blood Tribe Public Works for many years. His last few years, Morton drove the handi-bus with F.C.S.S. Morton gave his life to the Lord in 1989. Morton graduated from Bible College and after three years he received his Pastor ship. He began his Light House Ministry Church in 2000. For the remainder of his years, Morton dedicated his life to the Lord.
Morton is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan. His children: Rumpa (Trisha), Jason (Sabrina), Girlee (Fred), Sherry (Russel) and Tina. His brother Seymour (family) and his sister Abby (family). His special Brothers in Christ: Andrew Bull Calf, Barry Many Fingers, Randy Knife, Titus Uphan, Charles Old Chief, Gary North Peigan, Alex Hunt, Art and Delores Langley and Ruby Grant. Including Delores and the late Phillip Big Swan; adopted daughter Patty Devine; and adopted son Emery Three Persons. Morton had three life-long friends Roy Weasel Fat, Jasper Buckskin and Gilbert Blackwater.
Morton was predeceased by his parents Orton and Pauline Eagle Speaker. His sons: Timmy and Murdis. His siblings: David, Ruth, Joanne, Julia and Kim. His favourite uncles: Duce Bastien and Teddy Bastien. His grandparents: Charles and Julia Eagle Speaker, Bernard and Katherine Bastien.
Morton had numerous friends and relatives and the family is deeply sorry if anyone was missed.
A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Friday, May 29th from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A Viewing will be held on Saturday, May 30th from 9:00 - 11:00 with a Private Family Service to follow at 11:00 am. (Due to COVID-19 restrictions a limited number will be allowed into the service at a time.) Interment will take place in St. Catherine’s cemetery. The family requests visitors bring a MASK to the Wake and Service.
