It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mom, sister, auntie, and grandma SHARON MARIE EAGLE SPEAKER “Aakainkskaakii” - Many Song Woman- born April 16, 1955 at Blood Indian Hospital on the Blood Reserve and peacefully passed away on December 15, 2019 at the Fort Macleod Extendicare Unit in Fort Macleod, Alberta.
Sharon is survived by her daughter Shannon Gail (Kevin Plaited Hair) and grandsons Leland John and Kenny Wallace and special niece Leah Devine and family.
Sharon was raised in lower Standoff by her parents Tom and Maggie Eagle Speaker and by her sisters and brother. In her younger years Sharon could be seen hanging out at her mom’s house with her mom and her younger sisters- always cooking, cleaning, visiting, drinking tea, listening to music, and babysitting her nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Sharon had a huge and loving heart and cared immensely for her mom, sisters and brothers and all the family- Sharon always had a big smile and loved playing pranks and jokes on her family members especially her nieces and loved to laugh a lot.
Sharon worked in the oil fields up in Northern Alberta - Grouard Alberta and was a laborer in the construction of highway 509, which runs from Standoff to Lethbridge, and did some silver smith work and also worked at the local schools on the reserve as a teacher’s aide.
Sharon is survived by her sisters Levena Devine, Wanda Eagle Speaker, Ramona (Ervin) First Rider and numerous nephews and nieces and family.
Sharon is predeceased by her parents Tom and Maggie Eagle Speaker and her husband Francis John Red Crane; Grandsons Dradon Lee Rodney and Kevin junior Wallace; sisters - Peggy, Linda, Elizabeth, Frex, and Mary; brother, Thomas; nephews, Brian, Lance, Shawn, Waylon; and nieces, Elsie, Brenda, Shirley, Maggie, Elysia, and Taaliya; cousins, Nap, Roland; uncles, Jack (Imoiskii) and John (Tsoonii), and other family members.
Sharon is also survived by her extended families: Eagle Speaker, Black Face, Black Fore Head, Wolf Child, and Standing Alones.
Sharon joins her grandsons Dra and KJ, her parents, sisters and brother, along with many more relatives that have gone on to the happy hunting grounds.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors nurses and staff of the Fort Macleod Extendicare Unit in Fort Macleod for the care and compassion for our Auntie Sharon over the years.
A Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thursday, December 19th, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at White Calf Hall, Standoff, AB from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Friday, December 20th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
