It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Rex Ronnie First Charger, who passed away Thursday, May 16th, 2024 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 64. Rex was born in the Blood Indian Hospital on September 11th, 1959 to Clothilda First Charger and the late Leo Chief Moon. Rex attended the Levern and Glenwood Schools as well as the Dorothy Gooder College. Rex had lots of interests such as volleyball, baseball, ice skating, hockey and good fishing. He enjoys taking the kids sliding, family barbeques, horseback riding, breaking horses, farming, carpentry, mechanics, landscaping as well as attending camp meetings in Little Chicago at the annual New Life Fellowship Church. Rex met his wife, Debra in early January of 1979 and together they raised 3 beautiful daughters. Rex and Debbie legally married on May 29th, 1995 and later renewed their vows on their 24th anniversary in May, 2019.
Rex was employed in various jobs including potato farming and picking apples in Creston B.C. He was also employed with Ledcor Construction in Calgary, Rocky Mountain Grain in Stirling, as a farm hand for Duane Nelson, and the Construction program at BTest. Rex is survived by his mother, Clothilda First Charger; daughters, Kelsey and Trisha First Charger; adopted children, James Gurney, and Angel and Pam Bare Shin Bone; grandchildren, Elijah, Tyres, Dezray, Delray, Aurbenia, Faron, Silas, Isabel, Illiana, Rolanda, Trevor, and Jaylen; sisters, Suzanne First Charger, Brenda and Wendy Shot Both Sides, Rono, Carmen, Brenda Bare Shin Bone, Roxanne First Charger, Charlene David, and Noreen Black Plume; brothers, Ivan and Murray First Charger, Jordan Gros Ventre Boy, Stan & Brent Big Sorrel Horse, and Norbert Across the Mountain; aunts, Marlene and Peggy Chief Moon. Rex was predeceased by his wife, Debra First Charger; daughters, Rochelle First Charger and Vivian Crane Chief; Grandmother, Dora First Charger; brothers, Lloyd First Charger, Jordan Chief Moon Sr, and Louis (Sweet) Black Plume; sister, Gayle First Charger; grandchildren, Olivia Williams, Rolanda, Rommel, Daniel Crane Chief; niece, Carolyn First Charger; nephews, Casey, Cody and Dwight First Charger, Jordan Chief Moon Jr.; aunts, Dorothy & Alfred Shot Both Sides; uncles, Herman Sr, Leonard and Jerry & Bernice First Charger; cousins, Valerie, Herman Jr., Melvin, Rodney, Chilled, Kevin, and Albert First Charger. Rex was related to many families such as Big Sorrel Horse, Curly Riders, Gros Ventre Boy, Crane Chief, Chief Moon, Shot Both Sides, Hairy Bull & Many Fingers.The family apologizes for any family or names missed.
A Wake Service will be held on Thursday, May 30 at Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve from 7:00 – 11:00 pm continuing all night at the Rex First Charger residence. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 31 at Gladstone Hall at 1:00 pm. The Interment will take place at Pioneer Cemetery, Levern.
