ELLA MARIE (TILLACK) FISK, born 8 November 1941, passed away on 26 March 2022 in the Lethbridge hospital. She was the eldest daughter of Charles and Velma (Meldrum) Tillack of Raymond, Alberta. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Larry Fisk, her children Tanya (Ken) Anderson, Rebecca Fisk, and Steven Fisk; grandchildren Mercedes Hollingsworth, Shandon Anderson, Tyra Anderson & Kenia Anderson; Siblings Eunice (Robert) Way, and Gordon (late Charlene) Tillack, and many nieces and nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her Sister Myrna (Hans) Wenzel, nieces Mary Tillack, and Adeline (Sanson) Way, nephews Daniel Way and Marten Wenzel.
Marie grew up in a farming family, but she was also a scholar, starting with grade school in Raymond, then at Lethbridge College, the University of Calgary, and Brigham Young University, earning a Bachelors of Education and a Master's Degree in Library Science. She taught school in Raymond, Warner, Olds, Peace River, and Calgary before Cardston Elementary School where she taught either grade six or grade three for 18 years before retiring in 2006. Marie was always busy with a project. Whether painting a fence, cultivating a garden, or hand work such as crocheting, cross-stitching, sewing, quilting, or knitting, she used her skills to create a home and care for those around her. She carried on the philosophy of her childhood home to fix it up, wear it out, make do, or do without. Recycling was a way of life, and the quilts and rugs made from old clothing bear record of her thrift and craftsmanship. She was an avid reader and when her health started to limit her physically, it was not unusual for her to go through over a hundred books per year. She enjoyed visiting with people and carried on connections with people she knew for many years, earning her the reputation of being a trusted and treasured friend. After retirement, she employed social media to stay abreast of happenings in town and with family and friends. She had an enormous capacity to remember people and places. Her ability to recite three generations of families from Cardston, Raymond, Magrath, and Sterling will be missed. Marie served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many capacities where she shared her faith and her talents. When not able to go to church or the temple due to her health, she devoted her time to indexing many thousands of names for family history records. She was keenly interested in supporting her missionaries, especially son Steven (Canada, Toronto East), then grandchildren Shandon (Chile, Santiago South) and Tyra (Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo West) who went abroad to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She had a fervent testimony of Jesus Christ and was conscientious about enduring faithfully to the end. Marie and her family are grateful to all those who offered support and assistance, especially as her mobility was limited to using a walker, then a wheelchair, then while being homebound.
Friends may meet the family at the church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, Cardston, AB., on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cardston Elementery School Playground (contact the school @ 403-653-4955). The service will be available to watch later.
