It is with heavy hearts that the family of “Lane” Sherman Good Rider-Bull Shields Ootsimiyohkitopi – Sorrel Horse Rider announce his passing at the age of 37 years. Lane came into this world March 31, 1987 and left us to be reunited with mom and sister on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
Lane is survived by his father Ronald (Doris) Good Rider and the late “Peewee” (Arlene) Bull Shields. Fondly remembered by his two precious children Shiloh and baby Grayce (mom: Brittany White Quills) to join them was Colten and Bevin who made the family complete. Uncle to a special niece Trinity Big Throat. Left to mourn also are his aunties and great aunts: Gail (Reg) English, “Penny” Geraldine (Mike) Dan, Glenda (Rusty), Verda (Marcel), Debbie (Albert), Noreen, Lana (Les), May Weasel Fat, Sophie Tail Feathers, Nita Wells, Elaine Andrews, Bertha Weasel Fat, Joanne Scout and Judy Fox. Uncles and great uncles: Tom (Marlene) Good Rider, Charlie (Betty) Crow Chief, Randy (Anita) Bottle, Duane(Wilma) Crow Chief, Richard (Geraldine) Wells and Alfred Standing Alone. Lane was predeceased by his beautiful mom Peewee and a loving sister Tara Good Rider-Bull Shields. It eases our pain to know they are now reunited dancing, laughing and cuddling in heaven. They had a special bond that was so out of this world.
Lane graduated from Kainai High School and attended surrounding schools in Cardston, Lethbridge, and KBE schools. “Ootsimiyohkitopi” excelled in sports while at Kainai High and joined the Warriors basketball team and took pride in being the warrior he was. Lane had many challenges but that did not deter him from giving up on the things he loved. His loyalty to family, humour, laughter and zest for all things funny brought joy to all those who were blessed to call him a son, father, brother, cousin, uncle and a good friend. He was loved more than he will ever know. One of his biggest joys in life was when he was blessed with his two beautiful precious girls Shiloh and baby Grayce. They were the center of his affection. He supported Shiloh with hockey and was very involved in their lives including Colten and Bevin. He loved them unconditionally. Lane found immense joy in fixing things; he was good with his hands. He was an artist, carpenter and mechanic. “Ootsimiyohkitopi” was a jack of all trades. Lane, a truly respectful, humble, gentle, shy, and a big-hearted warrior, will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. Lane, you will be missed more than you know. Love you lots!!

A Candlelight service will be held at Ron Good Rider’s house on Saturday, September 14 at 5:00 pm. A Wake Service will be held at the Moses Lake Community Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Sunday, September 15 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Blood Reserve on Monday, September 16 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the St. Paul’s Cemetery.
