Brad was born on October 6, 1979 in Lethbridge Alberta. As a young boy, Brad could always be found playing with his Hot Wheels cars, playing outside with his 2 pet dogs he had “Patches & Snowball ”, where they followed him everywhere he went, mostly down to his uncle Stevens home, where Brad & Ayisha would get into mischief with Stevie Beaver & Billie-J.
Brad was his dad’s sidekick, forever tagging along with dad & his little sister Ayisha to the Hockey Rink. They were the rink rats, the rink being their home away from home. Brad could always be found on the bench alongside his dad who would be coaching, and was well loved & taken care of by his big bros playing. Later John would be coaching Brad throughout most of his Jr years.
When his baby sister Shilow was born, it was always a tug-a-war between Brad & Ayisha to hold and spoil her. Along with Brads little sisters Kiya & Tasheena, little brother Mr. Magoo (Tealson), nephews Brekken, Kemper, Decker, Rannon (Bubba), Oaklee, Tauska, Camden, his nieces Mattie, Layton and most recently baby Addy, as he called her, Brad was so proud of each and every one of them embracing them with Big Hugs, always ensuring that they were safe, mentoring them about life, was their pillar of strength and mostly made them feel loved, something Brad made very sure of everyday of his life.
In 2000, Brad became a Dad to a Beautiful baby girl, Taaliyah. She was his world, his everything. She had Brad wrapped around her tiny finger from day one. Brad was thee most proudest of dads. Taaliyah brought so much Love and Joy to all the family, and everyone that was fortunate enough to be apart of her short life. She left us all with her gift of strength, perseverance and love to cherish for a lifetime. After her passing, Brad found life very hard to endure, never thinking again that he would find such love again. Then on May 31, 2008 he was blessed with his Precious Princess Pressly. Brad showered her with unconditional Love, Pressly wanted for nothing, and Brad & Pressly were inseparable. A Father/Daughter Love & Bond, so unique in its own way. Everyday was about his Princess Pressly. She was the centre of his universe. He will be greatly missed by His Princess Pressly.
In 2011, Brad found his soul mate, Love and more Joy in his life, Inez Yellow Horn. Together they became a blended family for daughters Pressly & Piper.
As a young boy, Brad was raised on the Heavy Shields homestead, and later made a home for himself & his precious baby girl Pressly in Calgary Alberta.
Brad had many talents, of which he enjoyed throughout his life. At an early age, Brad learned to skate before he could walk. As soon as we put skates on, there was no stopping him, but as soon as the skates were off, he would go back to crawling. He was one year old when he learned to skate, and walked at the age of 16 months, go figure! He played Hockey throughout the years with Kainai & Calgary, advancing as far as Playing Triple A Hockey, where he was called by one of his many nicknames as “Triple A Brad’.
His biggest fan throughout his hockey career was his late father, John, and it was through their love for the game, it was there that the greatest Father/Son bond was created. His Dad was not only his Dad but Coach as well, alongside with his brothers that skated alongside him, shared the same bench throughout the hockey seasons, which created a lifetime bond of brotherhood through the Love of the game.
Golf was another sport in which he gained the experience & love, to swing a club from his dad. Brad & John, along with family and friends could be found throughout the season, playing together, laughing, razzing each other, competing against each other, telling stories and creating memories of a lifetime to cherish, bonds that were created through Love & Compassion for the sport.
Family & Friends of Brad, would always talk about his ever present Smile & Laughter, the warmth, depth and intelligence behind it. Most of all we can always feel the sheer pleasure of his company, his protectiveness, how good he would make his siblings, family & friends.... all of us all feel... how free we were to be ourselves around him, and how much he loved and cherished each and every friend, family, co-worker, acquaintance, anyone. Brad cared about people in the purest way. He loved us for who we are, and because he wished us all the best, without guile and without asking anything in return. What you saw with Brad was always what you got with him, and what you saw, if you were lucky enough to be his friend, was a truly delightful, generous, easy-going, fun-loving human being. Brad had so much goodness, so much capacity to bring happiness to others and such a bright future. Most importantly Brad had a deep love for his family, and cherished the time we all would spend together, playing & telling jokes on each other, and enjoying family & friend get togethers. His love for music, being his all time favourite George Strait, he could always be heard singing with the greatest of greats, enjoying Karaoke nights, everything and anything was an opportunity to place a bet on for Brad, be its sports, sibling rivalry, trivia questions, quotes of movies, songs, you name it, he would wager a bet with you, and of most of the time, most likely, he’d always come out on top the Winner. He was that smooth and confident.
Brad received his Elementary Education at the Saipoyi School on the Blood Reserve & his Jr. Years with the Cardston School District. After Graduation, Brad furthered his education at the Lethbridge Community College & in Calgary. Alberta.
Brad started working for Treaty 7 Management Corporation in 2004 as a Computer Technician, worked on the Status Card Project doing status cards, as well as working with Tele Health. Brad then moved onto working in the Finance & Administration Department, a job he did till March 2017. At the time of his passing he was working for the Treaty 7 First Nations Chiefs Association as the Finance Administrator since April 2017.
Although Brad’s life was cut short at the age of 39, his life was filled with Love, Happiness, Hope & Faith. He was and always will be remembered as the one who had and did it all. He was a very humble man, and for that which made him the Greatest Son, Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Nephew & Friend. Rest Easy now my Son. Forever in our Hearts.
