HILL, PATRICIA IONE McKEE – February 24, 1947 – June 28, 2018
Formerly of Kingsville, Ontario, now from Cardston, Alberta.
After a long and courageous battle with cancer and surrounded by family, Patti returned to the loving arms of her Saviour. She fought courageously, smiled gracefully and endured to the end despite her trying thirteen year struggle.
She is survived, and will always be remembered by her husband of forty-seven years, Bill, and their five children Karri (David) Stewart of Lethbridge, Alberta, Scott (Cassandra) Hill of London, Ontario, Kim (Patrick) Fisher of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Jeff (Lindsey) Hill of Cardston, Alberta and Mark (Marie) Hill of Edmonton, Alberta. In addition, she is adored by 21 grandchildren and many, many friends and other family. She looked so forward to a wonderful reunion with her parents Harry and Ione McKee, her brother, David, her sister, Heather, and very recently, her dear step mom and friend, Clarice McKee.
She was born in Windsor, Ontario and raised there where she grew and learned from so many wonderful people. One of those people was Orville Tushton who taught she and her family the gospel of Jesus Christ. At the age of 15, she chose to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which she said was the biggest pivotal moment of her life. It was a decision that she never regretted and she shared her tender feelings about it with all of her family often. She graduated from St. Clair Teachers College and loved her days teaching. She taught at many times throughout her life and in her later years, she discovered her love of motivational speaking. As an accomplished speaker, she touched many lives with her positivity and enthusiasm. After marrying Bill in Cardston, Alberta on December 23, 1971, they raised their family in Kingsville, Ontario.
Her mortal life was filled with music, singing, dancing, laughter and service to others. Her summers were spent at the family cottage in Tobermory, Ontario. Many of her fondest memories are from times there. In recent years, this love grew to encompass Southern Alberta. With the top down on her Sebring convertible, and ABBA playing loudly, she loved to take new friends for wind blown rides to the mountains. She saw beauty in both these places of the world and cherished her times in both.
She has been described as an “elect lady”. Her elect status allowed her to establish her legacy of her family. She dearly loved her family and felt that each of her five children strove to exemplify the qualities that she tried to teach them. Those qualities will continue to live on in her grandchildren. She was gracious and graceful. She had a gift of being able to empathize with others even if she had not experienced what they had. She was able to cheer, encourage and lift everyone she met. She had an innate ability to inspire and uplift those around her, to bring joy where it was difficult to find and to apply her “touch” to make her home and surroundings beautiful. Her courage through this difficult battle has been an inspiration to all.
Patti’s mission here, that of wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, friend and inspiration to many, has been successfully completed, and in her words, she has graduated. She looked so forward to the next life with those who had passed on before her and eventually with those who will join her in the future.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff and team at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit. They were all so wonderful and showed great compassion.
