Dwayne Hoof always referred to himself as a Jack of all trades. Beginning in the early years of his working career he worked as a labourer for the Kainai Industries during the 1970’s. From this era he realized the potential he possessed that so many others saw in him which inspired him to work harder in life. He then went on to work in the heavy machinery field which he enjoyed and excelled in. During the long hours of working on the earth movers he had time to think of an occupation that would provide a future for his wife, children and himself. He eventually pinpointed on getting into a position that had not been tried or tested on the Blood Reserve to which Dwayne knew could provide a much-needed service. Dwayne worked for several years with Pierson’s Funeral Services in Calgary, AB to obtain his funeral director, and embalmers licence. A milestone that Dwayne took pride in, being the first native funeral director and embalmer from the Blood Tribe Reservation. Dwayne worked for many years in different fields of work but always had his favorite hobby which was his craft business. The craft business brought Dwayne a lot of opportunities to travel and meet people who became his lifelong friends.
When Dwayne was home, he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife and children. He also enjoyed taking walks to the coulees to pick berries, going to catch that big one in the river and just overall enjoy the walks in the area where he grew up as a child. The trees that surround his home will always be a constant reminder to us of how much he cared for them. Throughout the spring and fall he would constantly water the trees and kept everyone one of them healthy and alive.
Dwayne was predeceased by his parents Joe Hoof, and Rachel Hoof Sr. Parents In-law John and Leona Sleigh. Siblings; Franklin Hoof, Josephine Hoof, William Hunt, Barbara Hoof, Marie Hoof. Uncles; Willy Plainwoman, Ralph Hoof. Aunties; Ada Weasel Moccasin, Rosaline Shot Both Sides, Nellie Long Time Squirrel, and Annie Davis.
The family would like to thank his nurse Jody Provost, the staff at Chinook Regional Hospital, and his Doctor Justin Lowe. The family apologizes if we missed anybody.
