ALFRED EARNEST HOPKINS, 83 years of age, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, November 19th, 2016 in Cardston, Alberta.
Alf was born in Kimberly BC to Martha and Albert Hopkins on August 28th 1933. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for three years and as a Fire Fighter and Ambulance Attendant for many years. He married Lois Calbick on November 22, 1958 in Nelson BC. Through out his life, Alf taught Industrial First Aid, St. John’s First Aid and attained certification as a Steam Engineer, Small Engine Mechanic, Locksmith and many other trades. Alf owned several successful businesses and retired from Cominco Calgary in 1994. He was a “Jack of All Trades, Master of Many”.
Alf served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a Church Service mission for two years and a temple patron mission for one year with his wife as his companion. He also served as a temple ordinance worker in the Cardston Temple for 10 years. Alf was known for his gentle, inclusive nature and has touched many lives through his ability to see the best in everyone who crossed his path.
Alf is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and Frank, his sisters Leona and Betty.
He is survived by his “True Love” Lois, his daughter Colleen Davies and her husband Dwight, his son Robert Hopkins and his wife Janelle and his grand children Christopher (Vanessa), Shardé and Tyler Davies and Sam (Jazz), Tanner and Madison (Delainey) Hopkins.
Memorial Services will be this Saturday November 26, 2016 at the Cardston East Stake Center. Meet the family at 10:00 a.m. Service at 11:00 a.m. with luncheon and visiting to follow in the cultural center.
His family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Justin Low and all of the wonderful surgeons and nurses who tended to him so kindly at the hospital in Cardston and Lethbridge.
Donations may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Arthritis Society in lieu of flowers.
