Darlene was born on August 11, 1957, at the Blood Indian Hospital in Cardston Alberta, raised by her parents Alex and Susie Hunt (Day Chief) in the Fort Whoop-Up Community (Huntsville).
Darlene attended St. Paul Residential School up until grade 8 then moved to Gilbert Paterson Junior High for grade 9 where she played soccer. Darlene then moved to Lethbridge Collegiate Institute for grade 10, Darlene did go to Bow Island for some of her high school years as well but eventually during school when Darlene was 16 years old, her father Alex Hunt Sr., removed her from school to help take care of her mother Susie Hunt. Years later Darlene attended Lethbridge Community College where she got her GED and award for mathematics.
Darlene loved playing fast pitch with the Ladies Fort Whoop-up Rattlers, she played back catcher and pitcher, winning some trophies for awesomeness. Darlene raised her children, Alec Chief Calf, Rochelle, and Danielle Hunt in the Fort Whoop-Up area of the Blood Reserve in her home. Darlene always pushed her children to keep going to school because she wanted to see all three graduate high school which they did and she was so proud of them, Darlene always taught her children that to get what they want that they must work for it and to never rely on hand outs.
Darlene was a very hard worker, she worked at FCSS in Standoff organizing day camps or weekend camps for the youth, and various other programs, she worked part time at B-Tap as a receptionist.
Darlene enjoyed beading for family members, sewing (making star blankets and quilts), attending family BBQs, outings, and especially enjoyed the mountain scenery. Darlene really enjoyed cheering her children on when they played basketball in Old Agency (Redskins) and when they got older her daughter Rochelle and son Alec put together a softball team the Rattlers that played in Softball Valley.
Darlene was walking on sunshine when her first grandchild (Dre) was born, she was the first one to set eyes on him when he entered this world, then came her other two grandsons (Quaid and Kaiden) and her one and only grand daughter (Savannah). Darlene cherished all her grandchildren with all her heart and will bend backwards for each one of them. Darlene gave all the love she could as their Mama, cherishing them with all her heart.
Darlene and Norah were very involved when their older brother Roger Hunt Sr. when he was first in the Sundance, they helped around the camp and cooked meals, they would stay with Roger until everything was done, Darlene and Norah also made Rogers full buckskin outfit so he can dance. Darlene was also the family's barber/hairdresser. She would cut, trim her dad's hair, brothers, and children's hair, she did this for several years.
Darlene was very kindhearted and helped where she could, her home was open to her family and friends that needed a safe place to collect themselves, her home was always full of laughs when she had a full house. She was always by Wilma's side when Wilma got sick with Cancer, she would go with Wilma to Lethbridge or Calgary for her appointments as she loved her very much and became a mother figure for Wilma until her passing. We will all have different memorable memories of Darlene.
