SAMUEL ALBERT JACKSON “BERT” was born October 17, 1928, the second child and first son of Samuel Alonzo Jackson and Iona Tanner, passed away in Cardston on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the age of 92 years.
Bert’s early years were spent in the HIllspring area where he learned the skills of ranching and farming. He was unable to finish school due to unexpected responsibilities required to maintain the farm and ranch.
Bert served a mission in New Zealand from 1948-1951
He met Zona Holland on a blind date a few months after returning from his mission. Quoting dad: “she really impressed me… and I would do anything to be near her”
They were married in the Cardston Temple on June 4, 1952 starting their life together in the Cardston region where their 3 children, Cory, Wes and Darla were born. In 1972, career changes took Dad to several communities in Alberta including Calgary, Airdrie, Fort MacMurray, Kananaskis, Canmore, Olds and finally, back to Cardston, as a widower, where he has resided the last 17 years.
Bert was a man who never backed down from a task that needed to be done. If he had never done the task he found a way to do it and sometimes better than the way it would have been taught had he had the formal education.
His favorite hobbies in no particular order was fishing, hunting, going for rides and serving others.
Dad served faithfully in any assignment he was formally given, but Dad excelled in quiet Christlike service to people. Many have noted his willingness to help lighten others loads first over his own personal needs.
Dad loved the temple – He had the opportunity to help as a worker and frequently would work extra shifts to help another person or he would find opportunities to just be in the temple.
Dad had a very quiet, reserved demeanor, but had a deep love for family.
He was a hero in the eyes of his 13 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.
Dad – we love you!! Till we meet again.
A Private Family Service will be held on Wednesday, March 10th, at 9:30 am. Interment to follow in the Olds, Alberta Cemetery.
