COLLEEN FRANDSEN Le CHEMINANT
Colleen was born on April 30, 1935 to Wardell Frandsen and Carmen Bennett in Iona, Idaho the oldest of 5 children. She is predeceased by her husband of 66 years Norman Larry Le Cheminant, her parents, and her 3 brothers, and two great grandchildren Olivia Le Cheminant and Bentley Davidson.
Colleen had a great love of books, writing and journalism. She worked in the local library as a teenager and her other hobbies included music and dance. She was named Girl Editor of the Year for Idaho during her journalism years in high school.
A blind date on Christmas Eve 1953 introduced her to Larry Le Cheminant and they were married on May 28, 1954 in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Larry and Colleen were blessed with 7 children: Laurel Dea (Harry)Hrebien, Rae Lynne (Tom) Barnes, Brian Farr (Frawnda) Le Cheminant, Ellen Marie Le Cheminant, Suzan Kay (Paul) Sunderland, Victor Allen (Jutta) Hopkins-Le Cheminant, and Peter John (Karla) Le Cheminant. They were also blessed with 25 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren who were blessed to be able to spend time with her and learn from her skills and wisdom. Her sense of humor kept everyone on their toes.
In 1972 Colleen and Larry moved from Idaho and immigrated to Canada. They made a home in Whitehorse, Yukon. They shared their home with many people over the years who were travelling up the Alaska Highway or needed a place to stay. They made lifelong friends with many. Their home was a safe haven. They were renowned for their Sunday dinners. After church on Sunday they frequently invited any visitors to their home for dinner. There were Sundays when there were 40 people at the table and the meal always stretched to feed everyone.
Colleen got involved in the Spruce Bog Craft Sale in Whitehorse and began selling her jams, jellies, and baked goods. People loved her items and were sad when she left the territory and they could no longer get their favorite jam or bottle of antipasto. She loved to garden and always had a pot of something growing in the house. The seeds from the tomato or orange found their way to grow for her.
Mom taught classes in the community to share her talents of cooking, sewing and quilting.
Colleen had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and showed her love by how she treated those around her. She frequently told her children to treat others as you would want to be treated and if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. Remember who you are was a frequent reminder as the children went out the door to their activities.
Colleen attended classes at the local community college and earned a bookkeeping certificate. She worked for several local businesses and then a job at Yukon Government for many years.
In 1995 after they had both retired, Larry and Colleen moved to Creston, British Columbia where they lived until Larry passed away in May 2020. Colleen then moved to Alberta and was living in Mountain View Alberta at the time of her passing.
Colleen shared her love of many things with her children and grandchildren. Their tributes to her are a testament of her desire to show her love and share her talents with them.. Many of the grandchildren were blessed to spend much time with her and learn cooking, canning, or just how to handle life's challenges. Colleen knitted and crocheted. She shared afghans and lapghans with many. These items are treasured by the recipients lucky enough to receive them.
Colleen is survived by her sister, Sherry Beerbohm of Spokane Washington, a sister in law Deon Huntsman of Idaho Falls Idaho, her 7 children, 25 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and legends of friends.
Her talents and words of wisdom will continue to carry on through generations. Her family are grateful for her example and love and support and for the wonderful tributes that they have received since her passing.
Legacy Funeral Home will be recording the service to be viewed later through their website.
Burial will be announced at a later date as Colleen wished to be buried with her husband Larry in Wilford Idaho.
A Private Family Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
