March 3, 1996 – September 7, 2021
Bailey Rope Many Fingers, 25 years of age, passed suddenly on September 7, 2021, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Bailey was born March 3, 1996, in Lethbridge, Alberta, to loving parents Andy and Nicole Many Fingers. Bailey was the second born of four children and will be tremendously missed by siblings: Sadie (Cole Black Water), twins Alice and Walker; beloved nephew Broly Black Water; Grandparents: Burton and Virna Many Fingers and Bernice Baptiste.
Bailey attended school at Saipoyi Elementary School, Glenwood Elementary School and Cardston High School. They received their high school diploma from Kainai High School. At the time of passing, Bailey was newly enrolled at North Quest College in the Justice Studies Program, their passion was to advocate for the homeless population as they were witness to the injustices that this population suffers. Bailey aspired to have a career in activism. Bailey moved to Edmonton to find thyself and during this time, they developed a strong desire to help individuals that had fallen on hard times. Bailey was devoted to the Water Warriors and would spend hours handing out water, cigarettes and snacks to the homeless population as well as cleaning up needles and waste in downtown Edmonton. Bailey was strongly affected by the announcement of the bodies of residential school victims recently found throughout Canada. So much so that they “borrowed” their mom’s orange shirt to wear every Friday on Pride Corner where they would dance and celebrate their pride while bringing awareness to residential school victims. No doubt that it was during these times that Bailey was most happy, they had made close bonds, family bonds, with peers at Pride Corner. Bailey was loved by so many and is deeply missed in Edmonton, they definitely made an impact so much that in their memory, the Pride community named Pride corner “Baileys Corner” and started the movement of “#Bailey Strong”.
Bailey was the type of person that always put the needs of others before their own. They would always make time to help his grandparents, from fencing and helping around the ranch with grandpa and cleaning for grandma Virna to helping Grannie B with her yard and later enjoying a visit with a cigarette. Bailey was so excited for the arrival of Baby Broly and even put themself in harm’s way to help care for Broly when Sadie became ill. Bailey ended up acquiring Covid, as Bailey would see it, a minor price to pay to ensure the health and well-being of Broly and Sadie. The protector in Bailey would make it so that Sadie was not to be informed of Bailey’s symptoms so as not to worry her and interfere with her healing. Bailey was an unconditional support to his big sister. Bailey and Alice shared a bond like no other. Many hours were spent in each other’s confidence. An amazing big brother... once assembling a last-minute Halloween costume, a Tide Box! (Actually, quite innovative) just so Alice would have someone to go trick or treating with. Bailey was so proud of Walker's accomplishments on the ice. Although Bailey wasn’t a hockey fan, they would always make sure to cheer for Walker from home, making sure to text for an update on how Walker was playing and what the score was.
Bailey grew up in the company of numerous cousins, some of whom a special bond was created. There was a relationship between Bailey, Jasmine, Jewel, Raegan, Freedom and Chelsea. Something that can’t be explained only felt. Bailey also had many close friends that were siblings: Starlight Fox, Margaret Many Fingers, Lexie Eagle Bear, Rayme Fox, and Jewel Wells. Bailey became part of these families and that continued to this day. Bailey had many adopted moms and auntie moms who treated them so well and called Bailey son.
Bailey was a part of a huge family consisting of the Many Fingers, Weasel Fat, Baptiste, Little Moustache, Knife, Sweet Grass, Hind Bull, Healy and Black Plume families.
He is survived by aunties: Marcella Wolf Tail (Ralph), Patti Knife (Willie), Jennifer Knife (Chris); uncles: Edward Baptiste, Louie Knife (Paula), Rodney Knife and many cousins too numerous to list.
Bailey is predeceased by grandpa: Gordon Sweet Grass; aunties: Rhondi Lynn Many Fingers, Kimberly Twigg; Uncles: Sheldon Twigg and Bucksy Knife; godmother: Lacey Twigg and cousin: Brielle Twigg
Bailey was one of a kind. Bailey showed love to all who were fortunate to meet him. That luminous smile and welcoming personality made many feel welcome, loved and accepted. Bailey will never be forgotten.
As Bailey was non-binary, Bailey preferred to be addressed as They, Their, Them.
The Wake Service will be from 7:00 - 10:00 pm on Thursday, September 16 at Andy and Nicole Many Fingers’s residence in Farm Four. The Funeral Celebration will be held on Friday, September 17 at 11:00 am at Senator Gladstone Hall. Interment to take place in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Stand Off.
