COREY J McCARTHY, a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully on September 3, 2021, at the age of 51, with his devoted wife and best friend Tami by his side. "If you're going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can't be erased” - Maya Angelou. Corey left behind a legacy of love and kindness. A mark that will not be erased from the hearts of all those who survived him, his loving wife Tami and son Nate. Together, Corey and Nate were like Batman and Robin or Steve and Bucky. A bond so bright it cannot be extinguished in even the darkest days, if only one remembers to turn on the light. Also surviving Corey are his parents Logan and Cheryl, sisters - Roanna (Francisco) Larios, Renae (Chris) Canales, Ashley (Jason) Ogertschnig, brothers- Curtis (Jolynn), Kevin (Kiera), Derek (Shawna), and Michael (Shaunie). mother-in-law Lynne Edwards, sister-in-law Lynsey (Patrick) Court, and brothers-in-law Rob (Melissa), Dennis (Mary), Jared (Kimberly), Cory (Marcie), and Cylus. One of Corey's great pleasures was bringing a smile to the face of small children everywhere. As if by magic, he could always find a piece of candy from deep inside his pockets. As Uncles go, he was unrivaled. He will be missed by all his nieces and nephews - Kristyn (Dave), Cara, Austin (Renee), Mikaela, Joshua (Alexus), Baylie, Eden, Kaedence, Mika, Kaylen, Reggie, Jetta, Madison, Drew, Nixon, Larson, Allie, Avery, Jace, Sayla, Nixon, Quinn, Adalynn, Jack, Brittany, Seth, Abigayle, Saige, Ethan, Rhett, Lincoln, Carson, Sophie, Audrey, Payton, Autumn, William, Vesper, Russell and great-nephew and niece CJ and Avianna. Corey was predeceased by his grandparents Eugene & Clara McCarthy, James & Rhoda Minty, and father-in-law Bob Edwards. On April 19, 1970, there was a distortion in space-time or maybe it was a ripple felt in the force; some say it is just a coincidence that Corey was born that day. From a very young age, Corey had a keen interest in working alongside his dad, be it newspapers or the tv station. It was during this time with his dad that he developed a passion for technology. He turned this passion into a career, first starting with a local newspaper, then to the Calgary Herald where he worked alongside his brother Kevin. On Sept 8, 2001, he married the love of his life, Tami Edwards. Their son and Corey's 2nd best friend, Nathan, who prefers to go by NATE, was born on April 8, 2003. Shortly after Nate was born the little family moved to Cardston so Corey could take over the local tv station (CH32) and then in 2014 he took on a position with the Westwind School Division where he worked until his passing. From 1990 to 1992, Corey served the LDS church in the Buenos Aires, Argentina mission. Long periods would go by without anyone hearing from him, overtime his family started to become concerned. After many calls they finally reached someone who could speak of his well-being. In broken English, they received word that “Corey is god”. Although this wasn’t the intent of his mission, his family were happy to learn that Corey was okay. Anyone who knew Corey knows that he was always willing to share his knowledge and support his community with hours of service. Although Corey's life revolved around technology, his greatest joy came from the love he gave and received from his family, all his brothers know he truly was the favorite uncle. An amazing DAD, a favorite UNCLE, a tech savant, a man who gave of his time, his talents, and his CANDY. "What is grief, if not love persevering?" - Marvel's WandaVision. Today all who knew him grieve but the mark he left will forever be in our hearts. And one day, we will reach deep into our pockets and find a piece of candy and know he isn't truly gone.
