It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Herman Alvin Medicine Crane “Na ta yo” at his home on the Blood Reserve at the age of 53 years old
Alvin was born on February 1, 1967 to the late Herman Medicine Crane and Louise Medicine Crane (nee) White Man Left
Alvin was born at the Blood Indian Hospital he was raised in Spring Coulee and later moved to Standoff. He attended school at Standoff Elementary than on to St. Mary’s High School. Alvin played hockey with the Kainai Minor Hockey and Jr Hockey League where he played with the Kainai Golden Chiefs. He was employed with K and D Forage, B.T. Administration- Custodian, Blood Tribe Hay Plant, B.T. Recreation and Parks, and Kainai Sports centre as Zamboni driver and Maintenance, B.T. Police as a guard, he also worked as an orderly at Cardston Hospital. Alvin was an avid sports fan his favourite hockey team being the Montreal Canadians. In the summer months Alvin playing baseball, he played with the Tomahawks, Raiders, Silver Bullets, and the Knockouts. Every Summer he would gather the community children and coached them from T-ball all the way to fastball all the children knew him as “Coach”.
Alvin made his cursillo in Siksika his theme song being “Amazing Grace”, Alvin enjoyed singing and dancing at Pow-wows he was a grass dancer. He travelled all over Canada and the United States to sing and dance. He sang with the Moccasin Flats singers. Alvin had a great personality and was always smiling and had an infectious laugh, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him young and old.
Alvin is survived by his children, Tara (Charles) Bird, Alvin (Laney) Medicine Crane Jr, Kimberly E. Speaker, Jodi (Patrick) Medicine Crane, Daddy’s girl Loretta (Silas) M. Crane, Chayla M. Crane, Harper Crow, Thomas (Sandy) M.Crane, James M.Crane.
Grandchildren; Baby Johnny, Aleeza, Georgia, Sunshine, Drake, Joseph, Yazmin, Aliyah, Taya and Alvin Blood.

A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thursday, September 17th from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A Viewing will be held on Friday, September 18th starting at 9:30 am with a Family Service to follow at 11:00 am. (Due to COVID-19 restrictions a limited number will be allowed into the service at a time.)
