It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dearest CHANEL TABETHA MILLS. She was called home on Monday, March 13, 2023 at the age of 24 years old. Chanel was born on November 25, 1998 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital to her parents, the late Monica Mills and the late Bobby Holy Singer. Chanel’s early years were spent with family at Low Horn Coulee. She attended Aahsaopi Elementary School, graduating from fifth grade. She really loved going to school everyday. One particular story was one Saturday morning her aunties were left to babysit her but were sleeping in, Chanel got up early and dressed herself and got on her tricycle got on the highway and peddled her way to school in Lavern. She was eventually spotted near Gladstone Hall by friends of the family and brought back home. When she arrived back home upon checking her, they found only her toothbrush in her back pack. At a young age Chanel participated in her grandparents’ annual Sundance down at the Bull Horn Coulee. She would partake in the ceremonial cutting of the tree which young girls are considered grandmothers for their purity and innocence. One of Chanel’s favorite past times was singing. Her love for singing also included airbanding with her cousins and singing along to gospel music with her grandparents. When Chanel attended middle school and Kainai High School she joined the Grassland Singers with Olivia Tailfeathers. Chanel became a mother to Xavier Cross in 2016 and to Athennia Aapanii in 2019. Being a mother to her children brought her such joy and happiness. She was very prideful in their early milestones. They say a mother’s love is always with her children. She may have held her children’s hands for a while but she holds their hearts forever. Chanel’s contagious giggle and laughter will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind her children, Xavier Cross and Athennia Aapanii Eagle Speaker.
