GRANT NELSON
May 13, 1935 – February 27, 2021
Grant Nelson of Cardston passed away at Lee Crest Feb. 27, 2021 at the age of 85. He will be missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce; children LeAnne (David) Crane, of Calgary, Shane (Elizabeth) Nelson, of Calgary, Serena Jones, of Flower Mound, TX; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and his sister, Marie Hill, of Medicine Hat. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Douglas Jones, his parents Ward & Violet Nelson, his sister, Luella Powelson, brothers, Melvin Nelson and Glenn Nelson, and step family, Viola Nelson, Duane Campbell, Mona Orlando, Arlene Rombough, and Lois Phillips.
Grant was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. He served a mission in Australia and was the most dedicated home teacher you’ve ever seen. Grant and Joyce raised their children in Edmonton and lived there for 45 years before moving to Cardston, AB in 2008. He leaves behind a legacy of what was most important to him: his family, working hard, dependability unmatched and service to others. Grant especially enjoyed road trips where camping or visiting family was involved, drives for ice cream, walking his little dog Max, gardening and keeping an immaculate yard. It was a real highlight for him when the Edmonton Temple was built allowing he and Joyce to work closely with the Temple Presidency to organize the cleaning of it; they met and worked with many fine people. Dad was a great listener, took great pride in his children and grandchildren and loved being involved in what they were doing. Grandpa had a huge sweet tooth and always had tin of treats he tucked under the driver’s seat of his car and a chocolate bar (or ten) in his drawer.
We would like to thank the staff and nurses of Lee Crest Cottage 1 for their care of Grant during his almost three years there.
A Viewing will be held for family and friends on Friday, March 5, 2021 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston. A Private Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Aetna Cemetery.
In honor of Grant, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society #40, 1202- 2nd Ave S Lethbridge, AB T1J 0E3
