Shaylee Marissa Robin No Runner, - Kimmataapsii – “Gentle One” a cherished member of the Blood Reserve community, Shay departed her earthly life with family by her side as she as took her last breath on August 7, 2023, at the age of 35. She is now reunited with her mom and dad and is no longer grieving them. Shaylee brought light and joy to her family and friends with her charismatic personality and kind heart.
Shaylee is survived by her beloved daughter, Monroe Preslee Dawn, who was the apple of her eye and a constant source of pride and joy. Shaylee often referred to Monroe as her miracle baby, and their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Shaylee was a loving sister to her brothers Guy Vaughn, Shamus (Akita), and Lane (Courtney), as well as her baby sister Nia (Cole). The connection between Shaylee and Nia was particularly special, with their deep bond often leading them to playfully refer to each other as life partners. Their sisterly love and support were unwavering.
Shay was born in Lethbridge, Ab to Robert and Marie No Runner. When she was born the nurse took off with her boasting my baby was born with green eyes to the other nurses and poor Robert was left standing there thinking he would be the first to hold his baby girl. Shay and her dad had a very close bond, they sometimes got on each other's nerves because their personality and temperament were so similar. Shaylee also shared an incredibly close relationship with her mother, Marie, and the two were inseparable. Shay, Monroe and Momma Marie were the three amigos, you wouldn’t find one without the other. They were a tight-knit trio, experiencing life's moments together and creating unforgettable memories. Shay and her mom Marie had the privilege of raising Monroe together and were there for very big milestones in her life. They got to experience all of Monroe’s firsts together like when she started walking or when she lost her first tooth. When Monroe was born she was premature and weighed only a 1pd 14oz but Shay and her mom were there from the very start and that’s what made Monroe thrive in the NICU; especially when they would take turns holding baby Monroe and singing her lullaby’s. The mother-daughter duo was instrumental in shaping Monroe into the remarkable young girl she is today, guiding her through every milestone and showering her with love and protection. They also went above and beyond for their baby girl Monroe and always made sure she was happy and felt safe no matter what.
She was a beautiful child always so friendly, and with her bubbly personality she was full of life and was a ray of sunshine wherever she went. Growing up she was often her father’s little companion as he worked long hours with horses at the barn and on the racetrack. Her and “Laney Boy” were well known children on the track, they were so inquisitive and mischievous. She was a little mother to Lane and Nia. Throughout Shay’s young life she was a protective and loving sister to her siblings. She continued to support Lane is his own endeavor with racing horses. Shay was a loving daughter and carried the traits of her mother, always laughing and teasing. She was so proud to be an aunt to Nia’s new baby “Nilah Rose Brookelle Cote” born July 13/23, Shay got to hold her and love her. Above all, she loved her little Monroe “Momo” named after her love of Marilyn Monroe. The light of her life was her daughter, Shay was committed and was able to raise her despite that Momo was born at under two pounds, she was a dedicated mother so expressive with her love. She was a loving aunt and was so proud of Cash in her hockey pursuits. She had an especially close relationship with her grandma and grandpa: Marion and Stewart, with who she spent a lot of time. Shay was a friend to all with her beautiful smile, she loved unconditionally. Shaylee's connection with her sister Nia was heartwarming and special. They shared laughter, inside jokes, and a deep sisterly bond that enriched their lives and brought them closer together She’d always tell Nia “I prayed every single night when mom got pregnant that you would be a girl cause I always wanted to have a sister”. Shania admired her big sister growing up and would constantly bug her to be in her room when Shay had friends over. Both of them even got matching tattoos when Nia turned 18, Shay of course had to go first because she was terrified of needles and had to hold Nia's hand throughout the tattoo. Shay always told Nia that you’re my only best friend in life and Nia would say the same to her. During the last few months of Shay's life she was able to spend time with her sister Nia and was able to be there for the arrival of Nia's first baby girl, Nilah Rose. Shay couldn’t stop talking about the pregnancy and was there when Nilah Rose was born. Shay got to hold the baby and still couldn’t believe she was finally here. Shay could not get over the amount of hair Nilah Rose was born with and kept telling Nia and Cole they made the perfect baby. Shay was so proud of her baby sister and would remind Nia often how proud she was of her. Shay loved her brother in law Cole very much, they would always tease and razz each other when they got together. Shay also told Cole “when Nia and I are old ladies, I’m living with you guys and you’ll be the one driving us to bingo”. Shay also kept hinting to Cole and Nia when the wedding would be and couldn’t wait for that day to come also.
Shay graduated from CCH in 2006 and after that she enrolled in various courses and programs over the years. During those years she was able to make friends with anyone due to her charismatic, humorous and witty personality. In fact Shay was able to take that charming personality and apply that in all aspects of life, especially having the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Shay was unsure what she wanted from life but due to that uncertainty it made her gain quite a few qualifications and certificates for herself. Shay was a very bright person, she was able to articulate her ideas and thoughts clearly to others. Shay lived out her life in Old Agency, she loved her home by the trees, the river, and the barn. She received her early education in Lethbridge and rode her uncle Delvin’s school bus, one among many of her cousins. Presently, she was enrolled in Red Crow college, off campus, she was thoroughly enjoying her studies. She also enrolled in LCC Criminal Justice Program.
Shay's hobbies included getting dolled up and taking selfies; she especially loved taking them with her daughter, Monroe and niece Cashton. Shay also enjoyed going for a drive and just blasting her favourite music to sing along too, especially George Strait. Shay loved Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, it’s how she came up with her Daughters name, Monroe Preslee Dawn. Due to her fondness of those two icons, it made it very easy for her siblings to shop for her birthday and Christmas presents every year. Her other hobbies included having played basketball, hockey and reading in her free time and her genre of book preferences were, true crime, biographies, mystery and horror, she also enjoyed a good tabloid magazine here and there. Shay and her sister Nia loved to watch horror movies, paranormal and serial killer documentaries together whenever they could; or often recommending which horror movie they should watch. Shay also loved to talk on the phone with her cousins Tasha and Kirsten, she would talk or text them every other day. Shay also liked to talk about aliens, the paranormal, the ocean, theories about the galaxy and what other life is out there, these conversations would often be with her sister during the night and would keep them up till 3am in the morning. Shay also loved to joke and laugh with her cousins and close relatives.
She loved her cousins like sisters: Kirsten, Tasha, Joely, Nikki, Ashley, Allyssa, Gracie, Dacey, Deanne, Melody and Brandy. Her godparents, Jennifer No Runner and Murray Healy. Shay, the ever-loving spirit had a big presence, she fought hard to beat her illness, but it wasn’t meant to be and now a ray of sunshine is gone from our lives. Shay was so loved and treasured and will forever be missed.
