OKA-BIRD
It is with great sadness that Terrance (Questo) Calf Robe announces the passing of his brother THOMAS WINSTON OKA BIRD at the age of 55 years on January 11, 2017 in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.
Thomas was born on December 22, 1961 to the late Winston Bird and the late Evelyn Oka. Being the oldest grandchild he was raised by is paternal grandparents, the late Billy Bird and Annie (Calling Last) Bird. He resided most of his life in the Moses Lake area.
Thomas loved life and lived life to the fullest. He was out going and friendly and won the hearts of every person he met. Thomas travelled with his Dad, Winston, to many camp meetings in Native country from Crow to Lapwaii and Washington. Thomas also helped out many of his fathers friends when it came to being part of the tent crew.
He received most of his education in Cardston from elementary to high school. In 1995 he became a certified forest fire fighter. His first fire was in Whitecourt and the last one was in Fort McKay. He also furthered his education in the culinary arts program receiving a certificate.
Thomas enjoyed spending time with family, whether it was dinner at Doris’s or a long talk with Uncle Rex or even fixing something with Uncle Henry, or being lectured by Auntie Jessie, or fishing trips with Uncle Gary and his friends. He loved traveling with his cousin Darren Small Eyes to hand games in various places across the country. Thomas was a jack of all trades and was very helpful and was always helping his dad fix vehicles. He was a proud bush mechanic.
Thomas resided up until his passing with his brother Questo. He was Questo’s personal nanny, watching over his two nephews which were his world. Kaiden and his boss man Kaleb. His second home was Auntie Doris’s house and he knew he was welcome anytime.
Thomas was survived by his brother Terrance “Questo” (Mandy) Calf Robe, his brother Richard (Chelsea), his brother Samuel Calf Robe, his nephews Kaiden and Kaleb; his sisters Tanya Curly Rider and Sharla Calf Robe; adopted sister Janice (Frank) Day Rider; step-mother Pauline Curly Rider; aunties Jessie Calf Tail, Doris Bird, Doreen Bird, Maureen Bird, Gail Cutter, Martha Minoose, Mavis Oka-Mitchell, and Patty Eagle Child; uncles Rex (Mary) Bird, Gary (Joyce) Bird, Henry (Rose) Bird, and Wilfred Bird; Delroy and Alymer (Sharon) Oka. The family apologizes for any names missed.
