HOMER RABBIT-HAIRY BULL passed away in Lethbridge, Alberta on October 27, 2017 at the age of 47 years.
Homer’s death has been very difficult for the the loved ones he leaves behind: his relatives, friends and especially his family; wife, Donna Wolf Child; children, Yolanda (Quinton) Heavy Runner, Nathan & Sheldon Wolf Child, Natasha Rabbit, Chelsea Walker of Chiliwack B.C.; His brothers and sister, Andrew(Micheline) Rabbit, Bruce(Trina) Iron Shirt, Norman (Stacey) Black Plume, Wayne, and Brenda Day Chief.
Homer was a man who was straightforward and honest. He loved family, participating in sports and a loyal friend to many. Something he learned growing up in Lavern, a community of tradition and strong Blackfoot speaking families. When his parents passed on several families stepped forward to help raise him; many thanks to the late Martin & Geraldine Crane Chief, Rita and Pete Knife & Mae Tallow. Fastball quickly became the sport of choice giving him the opportunity to reconnect with his brothers forming the Lavern Blues, a team that became well known winning many championships across Canada and the United States.
Homer and Donna, his partner and best friend, met in 1989 thereafter spending 28 years together as a family. Homer was the only father that Donnas children knew and called him ‘Dad’. He was happy and content being with Donna doing what they enjoyed, visiting friends. His ‘second home’ for seven years was the Mini Mart in Moses Lake working as a Security Guard, one of the jobs that gave him satisfaction giving back to his people and providing for his family.
We are comforted knowing he will be with family gone before him: his parents Joe and Celina Rabbit; brothers, Curtis, James, Michael, Joesph, Robert; sister Jodi Day Chief; parent -in-law, Reggie (Bella) Black Plume; son, Myron Wolf Child; daughter, Bridget Walker.
A Family Service will be at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Monday, Nov. 6th from 5:00 to 6:00 followed by the Wake Service at the Gladstone Hall from 7:00 p.m. all night. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Tues, Nov. 7th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the Rabbit Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to: www.legacyfuneralhome.ca
