Tyson was a very kind, gentle, compassionate man. He always helped the less fortunate in any way he could. Everybody was his friend; he never said bad words about anybody. He was very dedicated in his native spirituality with great respect for Elders. He helped his brother, JJ for 7 years of dances and encampments at the Sundance during JJ’s membership in the Horn Society. He befriended the Elders, who instilled Native Traditional knowledge, Native Cultural Values, and Native Spirituality in him.
One of his greatest passions was hockey; he started playing hockey at the age of 5 with the Cardston Tiny Mites then later moved on to the Kainai Minor Hockey Association where his teams won several Provincial championships. He played for the Kainai Golden Chiefs Junior B Hockey team. From there he was drafted by the Thunder Bay Feather Hawks who played in the The Superior Lakes Major Junior Hockey League (Western Ontario and Minnesota) from 2002 to 2004.
Being raised as a stock contractor, he started helping with stock chores before he started school. When he was old enough he was heading colts at the fall brandings, he graduated to heading the 2 year old studs when they were thrown to be gelded. With his agility, fearlessness, & strength he jumped on the stud’s heads as soon as they hit the ground. He was the last of his brothers to earn his PhD (Post hole Digger). At the rodeos Ty helped with the handling of the stock behind the chutes, this was his greatest thrill, filling the bucking chutes & watching the horses buck riders off. His top bucking horse was #25 – Ghost Dog, who travelled all over western Canada in the Pro Rodeo Circuit and was the top saddle bronk at the St Tite, Quebec Fall Festival Pro Rodeo in 2009.
He was in the film, Dream Keepers produced in 2001. Ty worked for the Blood Tribe Youth Ranch from 2004 to 2007 assisting counselors with their client’s daily care. In 2009 he started working with the Blood Tribe Tribal Government – Consultation. His various jobs were Technician & Consultation Monitor for major transmission power lines and oil and gas line projects as well as coal mine projects. Another company he worked with was the Bison Historical Services Ltd. Honorary mention to his TLUS team: Elders - David Striped Wolf, Norbert Black Water Sr, Ray Black Plume, Andy Black Water (deceased), and Frank Weasel Head (deceased). Also to his work team: JJ Shade, Sonny First Rider, Mike Tail Feathers, and Mike Oka.
He was tremendously loved by his family, his many cousins and friends. He has left a huge void in the Shade and Scout families. Donations may be made in his name to a Food Bank or to a Homeless Shelter.
