Heide was born April 1, 1944 to Kaethe Else Klietz and Eugen Drozd in Halberstadt, Germany. As a child she lived with her mother and grandparents in the former German Democratic Republic until the conditions of war compelled them to flee. Following an extended stay in a Hamburg refugee camp, Heide immigrated with her grandparents to Salt Lake City, Utah where she spent the remainder of her childhood. It was there that she met her one and only love Alden. They were married April 10, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their honeymoon in Germany turned into a full time mission, the first of many they served together. Their life together was enriched by the seven children that were born to them and became their joy.
Sweet as honey, Heide was kind and loving to everyone she met. She was full of ideas for things she could make for friends or family. She loved reading, music, quilting, painting, knitting and other crafts, giving away much of what she made. It delighted her to create something beautiful for someone else.
Devoted to family, she gave freely of herself to serve and love the family she married into and the children she raised, while honoring her German heritage. She loved her family more than words can describe. Her deepest desire is for all her family to be united eternally.
Faithfully, she served with all her heart, might, mind and strength to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. His love for her was always close and dear to her heart. That love radiated from her and was felt by all who knew her. Her testimony was an immovable anchor. She loved the scriptures and teaching the gospel. She loved the temple and the blessing of serving within for so many years. She also spent a significant amount of time researching her family history so that her ancestors could be blessed by gospel ordinances and receive the same joy and comfort that the gospel brought to her.
Days before her death she declared that her testimony echoed these words found in Enos 1:27 “And I soon go to the place of my rest, which is with my Redeemer; for I know that in him I shall rest. And I rejoice in the day when my mortal shall put on immortality, and shall stand before him; then shall I see his face with pleasure, and he will say unto me: Come unto me, ye blessed, there is a place prepared for you in the mansions of my Father. Amen.”
Our precious wife, mother, and sister Heide leaves behind a legacy for her family to follow the way back to our Eternal Heavenly Father. Until we meet again, we will miss you dearly.
