It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend, Alfred Shot Both Sides. He was a light in this world, and now we need to continue shining his light by carrying it within us in our own lives.
Alfred passed away on Friday September 16, 2022, at the age of 83, where he lived at the Bethany Riverview Care Center, surrounded by his Children, and Grandchildren.
Alfred was born August 9, 1939 at the blood Indian hospital to the late Jim senior and Annie Shot Both Sides.
Alfred grew up in the Lavern Area he was very close to his late grand father Aastsotaow Shot Both Sides as he was his favorite grand son, he kept him home after he was injured working on the Waterton Dam during construction he took care of grandpa made sure he was comfortable, helped haul water and fire wood for him.
Alfred was very kind, loving, humorous and never raised his voice at his siblings and enjoyed helping with the horses and cattle, breaking and branding. Alfred was very active and enjoyed skating, hunting trapping, horse back riding and spending time with his relatives, in his younger years he would clear the ice down on the river and be skating and playing hockey at night with his child hood friends the late Alfred, Michael, Joseph, Across The Mountain. Alfred met and Married Dorothy First Charger in the 60's and resided in Lavern and started a family. Alfred would pick up the wagon from his grandfather's barn and give wagon rides to the kids from late Dora First Chargers to Lavern and back. when he was working in Glenwood at Rexwood when Dorothy needed to take a trip in to town he trained his horse to find his way back home to Dorothy and give her money that was hidden in the saddle. Alfred was a hard worker he worked various Jobs in High Prarie and Farming on the Blood Reserve. one of his favorite hobbies were making belts and bridles for his friends and family Alfred took upgrading at the Dorothy Gooder Campus in Lethbridge. Alfred will be greatly missed by all that knew him, he is survived by his children Brenda EP, Wendy SBS, Homer (Kelly) SBS, Timothy SBS, He also leaves to mourn 32 grand children, 29 great grand children and Siblings Christine (Roy) Bare Shin Bone, Clara Chief Moon, Lena Shot Both Sides, Gabrielle Harry Bull/Shot Both Side, Maryanne (Mathew) Chief Moon, Patsy (Richard) Right Hand, brothers Donald, Christopher and Jim junior Shot Both Sides, and special grandson Alfred (Reese) Shot Both Sides, special neices Louise, Yolanda and Ashley Shot Both Sides, Adopted children Gail, Rex, Suzanne, Ivan and Murray First Charger. Alfred was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Shot Both Sides, his daughter Valery First Charger, sons Kevin and Albert First Charger, Grandfather Aostsotaow Shot Both Sides, his parents Jim senior and Annie Shot Both Sides, brothers Clovis, Bernard, Rodrick Shot Both Sides, sisters Mildred Chief Moon, Pauline Eagle Child, Flora Healy. Although Alfred's life ended before we were ready, the time that he spent in our lives was memorable and full of joy, he will be forever missed.
The Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Wednesday, September 28 from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. The Wake Service will follow at Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve from 7:00 - 11:00 pm and continue all night at Homer Shot Both Sides’ residence. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary’s Church, Blood Reserve on Thursday, September 29 at 11:00 am.
