It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Marlon Blake Shouting on December 23, 2022, in Lethbridge, Ab, at the age of 36. Marlon was born on April 4, 1986. Marlon was called home to be with his late mother Geraldine Shouting, whom he loved and missed very much. He will be missed by his loving family, brothers Wesley (Gwen) S. & Matthew S.; sister Deanna S.; nieces Sharmaine (Owen) S, Jasmine GS, Jessica RC, Cassy S, Jamie HR, & Celina HR.; nephews L.J. GS, Kendrick S, Jared S; father Laurie ATM; uncles Thomas (Rosaline) HS, Patrick ATM, Richard C, Norbert ATM; aunties Christine LB, Mary Ann HS, Shirley (Barnabas) TM, Ardith W, & Roxanne FC. Along with numerous close family members that he loved and cherished in his lifetime.
Marlon was known for his very kind, and gentle soul, and how he showed goodness to all he met. He shared his happiness with others through his passion and talent for playing musical instruments. Marlon’s love for music began at a very young age through going to Camp meetings with his late mom, Geraldine S. Over his life lifetime he dedicated many hours to learning the how to play different musical instruments, and reading sheet music, skills that he acquired through the art of self-teaching. Marlon’s teenage years were spent dedicating his life to sports and music. He attended school on the Blood Reserve; Saipoyi Elementary School, Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School, and then Kainai High School. During his time at KHS, he joined the Foot Ball team and discovered his natural talent for the sport. His enthusiasm and drive for the game gave him immense joy, as he played alongside his brother Matthew, cousins Andy & best friends. Marlon made lifelong companions through his time spent being a KHS Warrior and cherished the connections and kinship he gained. His family supported him at every game, often traveling many hours to watch him play. Marlon continued his post-secondary education at the Blackfeet Community College where he completed his G.E.D. and acquired a Building Trades Certificate in 2008. On his drive to the college, he was happy to be close to Chief Mountain. Him and his sister Dolly both attend the college, he shared a special bond with her, and she encouraged him in all aspects of his life. After his schooling, he worked for many years as a carpenter with Mountain View Industries in Cardston, where he learned the skills and confidence that allowed him to work freely. Also, home improvements were made to the family home. This made his mother so proud, and when she expressed the desire for some improvements he delivered without hesitation. Marlon was also very accomplished in the Blood Tribe Agricultural Training Initiative, gaining awards and accolades throughout his training in 2016. He worked with the land and farmers in the area surrounding the Blood Tribe. He was a dedicated employee in every aspect and when he took on a new skill, he committed his entirety to learning and understanding the intricacies of his newfound talent. It was during this time of his life that he met his companion of many years, Tara Good Rider. When Marlon met Tara, he accepted her and her family and her children with his whole heart. Marlon did not hesitate to accept Tara’s children into his life as his own, as per teaching from his kind and gentle mother, who preached to him the importance and traditional values of adoption in Blackfoot ways. Marlon loved his family and was a dedicated provider. Marlon was known for his willingness and positive demeanor that was expressed in the way he never hesitated to lend a helping hand to those around him, expecting nothing in return. His soul was one of a kind, and the light in his heart was clear to anyone that met him. Even in his trials, his cheerful ways and humor kept intact, and he would not hesitate to greet family and friends with a smile and kind words.
He was predeceased by his mom Geraldine S; brother Lyndon S.; neice Jolene S; nephew Godfrey S; aunts Bernadine HS, Alvine LH, Delphine HS, Debra FC, & Christine D.; uncles Oliver S, Alvin W & Charles C, James ATM, Joe ATM, Marcel S, Jerome S and Bernard S; maternal grandparents Bertha Shouting and Arthur Wells; paternal grandparents Isabel ATM and Frank C. and numerous other family and friends that he cherished. The family apologizes for any names that have been missed.
Marlon will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and companion. He was loved and cherished by all that knew him here on Earth. This love that surrounds him will continue in the Happy Hunting grounds as he is greeted by our ancestors and loved ones that have already made their journey home.
The wake services will be held at the Tanner Center in Cardston, AB, on January 17th at 6pm. Funeral service will be held at the Tanner Center in Cardston, AB on January 18th at 1pm. Interment to follow at the Pioneer Cemetery on the Blood Reserve.
