DOREEN H. SILVIUS, age 89, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2018, at the Cardston Hospital, Cardston AB. Doreen was born July 4, 1928 to Helena (Oberg-Guldager) and Harry Heighton Tilley in Hitchcock SK. Doreen was the 10th of 13 children having 7 sisters and 5 brothers. Doreen's father fondly referred to his large brood as his "baker's dozen". Doreen learned the meaning of hard work at an early age. Having such a large family her chores were many and she was always willing to help her beloved mother in any way she could.
This strong work ethic and willingness to help others was something she demonstrated her entire life.
In 1973 Doreen, her 2 sons and 2 daughters moved to Cardston where she set up shop in her home and worked as a hairdresser. She worked many long hours for may years to make sure her children were well provided for. She did not officially retire from this profession until she was in her early 80's and even then she continued doing hair for her family and friends.
Doreen was dedicated to her Church and loved working in the LDS Temple. She served as a Temple worker for many years until a decline in health forced her to give up this position she loved so well. She continued to faithfully attend weekly Temple sessions until her health prevented her from doing so.
Doreen was blessed with many talents. She possessed a creative mind and had many hobbies. Doreen could never be idle so even when relaxing in front of the t.v, her hands were always busy with crocheting, knitting, embroidery. She knit the most beautiful sweaters for her family and crocheted many, many afgans in her time. Doreen was also an accomplished seamstress; she could sew anything as long as she had a picture to work from. Her grandsons Arik, Alex, Aidan, Dustin and Austin and her granddaughters Tasha and Tiffani were recipients of the most wonderful costumes she would sew them for Halloween.
Doreen possessed a kind, gentle heart and was generous to anyone in need of help. She was always willing to lend a hand when needed.
Doreen will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind; her loving sisters Alice and Lila, brother Alan, her dear son in law, Dale, daughter Colleen, grandson Austin, numerous nephews and nieces plus the many who's lives she touched in her special way. Family was important to Doreen and she has now been reunited with her 5 sisters, 4 brothers and parents who passed before her.
We wish to sincerely thank everyone for their support and kindness during this time.
I HAVE FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT. I HAVE FINISHED THE RACE. I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the Cardston Cemetery.
