MARY SINGER was called home by our Creator on December 30, 2015. “ Iikaiksistsipoyaakii” (Standing Ready Woman) was born into the Ni’taitsskaiksi (Lone Fighter) clan on November 5, 1926 at the Standoff Hospital. At the age of 8, she attended St. Paul’s Residential School with her sister Marjorie. They left together in 1942 to work in Winnipeg for 2 years as domestic housekeepers. In 1946, she married Bruce Red Crow and they were blessed with their daughter Veronica (Ronni). Bruce passed away 4 years later. In 1958, Mary married Walter Singer Jr. and together they completed their family when they had Harley in 1961 and Doug in 1967. Mary worked for a few in years at the Blood Indian Hospital as a nurse’s aide and eventually stayed home full-time to raise her children and help Walter with their farm and ranch in Bullhorn. She was always proud of her gardening and loved canning her veggies and fruits. Mary was so proud to support her children and grandchildren in rodeo and hockey. She was a star when the mothers would play the kids in hockey. She became a widow in 1987 and lost her son Harley in 1988 and then began to spend more time with her grandchildren. Mary travelled to Lac St. Anne, Guadalupe Shrine in Mexico and throughout the US with Ronni. She kept herself busy with all her grandchildren and playing bingo with her sisters. Mary was so proud and supportive of Ronni’s achievements in her education and with Doug in his sports and ranching. She also loved to cook at the family branding every spring. Mary was supportive and good to all her neighbors in Bullhorn; she would babysit kids whenever anyone needed her. Everyone enjoyed her stories and her unique sense of humor. In 2013, Mary suffered a stroke and moved to The Good Samaritan Society Lee Crest in Cardston. She resided there until her passing.
