SINGER
It’s will great sadness that we announce the passing our dear William Ashton Singer IV (Kokomi) Kisomm. He was born to William Singer III & Jennifer Big Head on June 13, 1988, in Edmonton Alberta. Passed away November 11, 2021, in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 33 years.
Known to everyone as Willy, was raised in Lethbridge, Alberta where he attained his education. Willy lived his life to the fullest, his love of music resulted in the formation of the Chief Mountain band. The group being close friends, who Willy loved as his brothers, have influenced and inspired many followers. As a young child, Willy had a love for punk rock, singing along with the Ramones and Social Distortion. It was no surprise that he became a musician and singer of a punk band. After high school, Willy began to pursue his band, his passion for music was the driver to his creativity. Since Willy was a child, he was raised around many musicians, specifically his father, who was his earliest influence. Willy’s father has had his own rock band, where he was exposed to various sounds as well as styles of rock, metal, and punk. Willy learned from his father William and had other musicians that he held in high esteem such as Terrill Tailfeathers, Todd Eagle Child, Rudy Strangling Wolf as well as his uncle Carl Singer. Willy demeaner was kind and generous, however those who were close to him also knew he was clever and quick-witted. Willy learned the art of humor and storytelling from his late uncles Alvin John Heavy Runner and Adam Sonny Delaney. Both his uncles also contributed to his upbringing, learning about his Blackfoot culture. To his uncles he was known as Willy Brown.
His first band, Stone Age Underground and its original members, Wyatt, Eli, Mason, and Dillon established in 2004. This began his life dedicated to music. Willy was raised by a single parent, where he learned to be a hard worker and independent. Like his father, believed being independent fosters one’s ability to be self-reliant and self-sufficient. To be able to do what is necessary to create a fulfilling life for oneself and family. Much of his career, he was a chef in various restaurants as cooking good food was one of his passions. The Chief Mountain band started in 2008, originally as three-piece garage rock/instrumental band founded by Will Singer, Husky First Charger, & Nigel Derksen. Will playing lead guitar/rhythm guitar with Husky and Nigel splitting the duties between bass guitar & drums. In Summer 2010 Tico Ironshirt was added to the mix for rhythm and lead guitar duties, rounding out the sound of the band. Nigel left the band in 2012 to pursue other creative avenues with Leo Eagle Tailfeathers picking up the slack on bass duties and Jason Beall sitting in on the skins. Nicholas Hay also spent a short stint in Chief Mountain as the drummer for one gig only. In the later years of Chief Mountain there was a rotating lineup with the final lineup being Nigel returning to bass duties with Leo switching to third guitar.
Amongst the many talented groups in Lethbridge, the Chief Mountain band stood in its own space of punk rock scene. Willy was a skilled guitarist, known for being left-handed, was seen as a distinct musician with his rare talent. His abilities were not specifically in music, but his talents in creating relationships with many individuals who in their own lives needed understanding and support. His close friends describe him as a deeply humble man, who’s compassionate nature brought together many who are now his close friends and family. Willy had many other skills, not only his passion for modifying guitars, but was also computer tech and an artist. Willy and Nigel travelled to many cities, simple to attend concerts of their favorite bands. Of most important loves of his life, was his children Rylan and Leela. He speaks endlessly of his hope and wishes for successful future for his children. Willy also had a close relationship with the family dog Zoro, who passed in April of 2021.
