FRANCIS SMALL EYES
BORN: August 29, 1941
DIED: May 22, 2016
It is with tremendous sadness to announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Francis Small Eyes. He was born at the Blood Indian Hospital on August 29, 1941 and the first years of his life he resided at north end of the blood reserve near the old mission Indian Residential School and his parents relocated to the Moccasin Flats area and then moved across Lee Creek to the East side of the Blood Reserve where he resided until his passing.
Francis was a kind, gentle person who cared for everyone he met. His home was often a place for those who had nowhere else to go. At the time of his passing, Francis lived at his home with his son Duane who cared for his dad; making sure he was fed and dressed in clean clothing for his daily visits to see his friends in downtown Cardston.
As a young man, Francis spent his time hunting with relatives, the late Steven Steele and Sam Small Eyes. These young men, including brother Frank, would often leave home to travel south to Yakima, Wash., and the Seattle area to pick apples and perform seasonal work. He also travelled to Wyoming, to work as a ranch-hand. They often came home with a lot of goodies that they shared with their loved ones. During his lifetime, Francis was a Scout for the Blood Tribe now known as the Blood Tribe Police and then later moved to Calgary where he found employment as a laborer for many years. When he returned home, he was often seen on tractors and combines assisting area farmers in the fields he worked for farmers such as Forsythe; Guy Bowman; Westin Construction. He also worked at Montana, U.S. with Roy Tallow along with his brother Frank as Ranch-hands at the Douglas Ranch, where he recalled fond memories. Francis was a good horseman and a Jack of all Trades.
He was a good story-teller who often shared his sense of humor in making people laugh. He had a way of making people forget about their own worries; He lived his life in a carefree manner but could always be counted on if anyone needed help or guidance. He loved his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; his brother and his many friends to mention James and Joseph Across the Mountain, with all his heart.
Francis is survived by his brother Frank Small Eyes, Delphine Small Eyes and his children Jason Crow; Frances (William) Many Bears; Misty Small Eyes; Duane Small Eyes; John Crazy Bull; Karen (Pat) Eagle Tail Feathers; Cory Bad Man. Grand Children- Lyndon; Jen; Ryan; Terrance; Ellianna; Tucker; Nikki; Patricia; Shelby; Danielle; Bob; Brooker; Jada; Mathew and Tanisha. Along with 8 Great-Grandchildren. Special nieces; nephews and friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by his parents; George & Rosie Small Eyes. Siblings; Beatrice (Joe) Shouting, Alfreda (Adam) Delaney, Molly, Teresa, Sam (Debi) Small Eyes, Charlie (Irene), Thomas, Herbert (Louis) Bull Shields.
A Wake Service will be held on Thursday, May 26th, 2016 from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Moses Lake Gym, Blood Reserve. The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27th, 2016 at ST.
