The Solis family moved from Ecuador when Robert was around 7 years old to Costa Rica while working on their immigration to Australia. After a year they were able to move to Sydney, Australia, working hard to adjust to a new country as well as learning a new language.
Robert loved Australia and always called it “Home.” He loved the ocean, watching and playing rugby, running, and especially the warm winters. He attended Randwick Boys High in his later school years as well as a year of Electrical Engineering at a Technical College in Sydney.
At 20 years of age he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Melbourne, Australia. He loved his mission and always wanted to take his family to see where he served. His favorite calling in the church was serving in primary. He loved each of the children in his classes and was sad to leave them due to his declining health.
In March of 1986 he met his Canadian sweetheart Cheryl, in Sydney Australia who had been travelling with a friend. It was love at first sight and they were engaged 8 weeks later and then 6 months later Robert and Cheryl chose to move to Canada. They were married in November 1986.
Robert started working in Calgary, Alberta, working his way up in the Corporate banking industry. He enjoyed many of his work associations, while also attending many business functions. He enjoyed travelling for business seeing different cities in Canada. Rob loved going to the gym after moving to Canada regularly. He instilled the love of fitness into all of his family. Especially the love and enjoyment of great food. He loved to eat.
His greatest accomplishment was having his 4 children, and adored his 2 grandsons. His family brought him great pride and was heart broken to leave them. His home was his castle and his family his priority. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends each and every day.
A Private Funeral Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home (107 6th St W, Cardston, AB) on Saturday, October 24th, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
