ALMA SPEAR CHIEF-SCOUT “Itohkitaipoyi” (Standing On Top). Alma, beloved wife of the late Martin Scout, passed away suddenly on the Blood Reserve on April 14, 2020 at the age of 70 years. She was born in Cardston, Alberta on February 6, 1950 to the late Allen & Isabel Spear Chief. Alma resided on the Blood Reserve and is survived by her loving daughters, Deborah (Gavin) Anderson, Tricia (Byron) Spear Chief, Karen Shade; her loving sons, Sean Scout, Lennox Scout; grandchildren, Tatjana, Dustin, Ravyn, Colton, Sage, Rory, Jayden, Logan, Kesse, Mataya, Shaquila, McKenley, Lewis; great grandchildren, Aarionne, Cassidy, Drayton, Mia, Zuhkai; siblings, Gertrude (Tom) Good Rider, Monica (Adolf) Spear Chief, Melvin (Merle) Spear Chief, Kelvin Spear Chief, Emma Brave Rock, Gloria Spear Chief, Margaret Taypotat, Carolyn (Kelvin) Spear Chief; in-laws, Ben Jr. (Audrey) Scout, Lavern (Ann) Blue Wings, Roseann (Justin) Scout, Charlie Scout and Jordan Chief Moon Sr. Special regards to Shawn Shade; and nieces, nephews and relatives too numerous to mention. Alma had a long list of educational endeavours and career pursuits including having attended St. Mary’s residential school, Catholic Central High School, Lethbridge Community College, Nursing programs at North Battleford, and nursing graduate from SIAST Kelsey Campus, Saskatoon, SK; and the University of Lethbridge where she obtained her RN designation. Alma had an equally long list of career pursuits which brought her to many locations within Canada. These included travelling to Kanesatake Mohawk First Nation in Quebec to receive training in the Kakakaway Medicine Wheel Teachings. She travelled to Salish First Nation in B.C. To deliver a diabetes program. Alma worked at various locations as well including Calgary General Hospital, Foothills Hospital, Fort Macleod Hospital, Cardston Hospital, Old Indian Hospital in Moses Lake, St. Michael’s Hospital, Extendicare Nursing home (Lethbridge), We Care Home Services, Primco Dene northern Alberta Oil Sands Medic, and Blood Tribe Department of Health in the Long Term Care Center. She ended her career as supervisor of Kainai Home Care Services and was recognized by her co-workers at her retirement in November 2019. Alma was a well respected member of the Blood Tribe and surrounding communities. She enjoyed camping, travelling, and spending time with family. Alma was 17 years old when she met and married the love of her life, Martin Scout. Together they acquired a home in Fish Creek where they raised their family and enjoyed 50 years of marriage up to the time of Martin’s passing in 2016. Alma was predeceased by her loving husband Martin Scout; parents, Allen and Isabel Spear Chief; grandchildren, Shania Black Star, Mikai Shade, Kadence Black Star, Addison Spear Chief; sisters, Rita Spear Chief, Lenora Sinclair; daughter-in-law, Tracy Hind Bull; sisters-in-law, Rosetta Scout, Freda Scout, Victoria Scout; and Ken Scout. Alma was loved and respected by many and the family apologizes for any names that may have been missed.
A Private Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Monday, April 20th at 11:00 am with a Private viewing from 9:30 - 11:00 am.
