WINNIFRED SPEAR CHIEF
1962-2020
With loving memories and heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of WINNIFRED (WINNIE) SPEARCHIEF of Cardston AB, wife of deceased husband William James Hunt, in Lethbridge AB, at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Monday, July 6th, 2020 at the age of 58 years old. Winnifred Spearchief was beloved wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, sister, and friend, but above all was a strong, powerful, courageous woman who will be eternally missed.
Winnifred Spearchief was born on February 27th, 1962 in Cardston, Alberta. Predeceased by her loving father Reggie Spearchief and her siblings Rachel Spearchief, Wanda Bull Calf, Albert Spearchief and Roger Bull Calf. Winnifred’s mother Rita Bull Calf who resides in Calgary and two sisters Lori Spearchief and Jenelle First Rider who reside in Lethbridge. Winnifred has three children, Marjorie, Kelvin (Freddie) and Johnathan Spearchief with her first husband Kelvin Vielle. Winnifred has eight grandchildren, Javier Spearchief, Gladys Martinez, Luis Spearchief, Carmen Martinez, Jocelyn Spearchief, Jeremy Spearchief, Tyrese Day rider, and JT Spearchief and one great grandson Jaxon Smith, “Spearchief”.
Winnifred was the third oldest of her siblings. Winnifred was raised on a small farm east of Uncle Allen Spearchiefs, where her Dad, Reggie, raised cows, horses, and chickens. Leroy Hunt, Moses Spear Chief, Andrew, and Delores Bull Calf were a big part of her life growing up on the reserve. Also, cousin, Stephanie Spear Chief, who always remained in close contact with her. In the fall of 1968, Winnifred and her siblings went to live with Uncle Allen and Isabel Spearchief for 6 months. From there, Winnifred and her siblings lived with foster parents, Bubbles and Grace Stutsma, in Raymond, AB, where they received their education. Winnifred worked as an EMT in Stand-off AB during 1990’s, where she met her second husband William James Hunt. They spent most of their life together in Cardston where they built a life full of joy, laughter, and love, and always had a great time along side each other. Winnifred and William were soul mates and now they can reconnect and reside in eternal peace.
Winnifred was a kind-hearted person with a gentle loving heart. Winnifred was a generous person would always lend a helping hand to whom ever needed it. Whenever she would have BBQ or travel friends and family were always invited. Winnifred was a mother to everyone; she took care of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. People would refer to her as mom or ma. Winnifred’s generosity spread like wildfire, her desire to provide for others was admirable. Winnifred was a one-of-a-kind and will be loved and missed forever.
A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Friday, July 10th, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at Legacy Funeral Home on Saturday, July 11th at 1:00 pm with a viewing from 12:00 -1:00 pm. Interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
