It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear wife and mother, LORNA MAY STANDING ALONE nee (Storm) (Kaispki/Sioux Women) born July 23, 1961. She passed away from a lengthy illness at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on October 10th, 2018 with her family by her side - Gilbert Standing Alone Jr and children.
Lorna will be loved, missed and remembered by her husband of 41 years, Gilbert Standing Alone (Sakoyistomii), daughter Tasha (Grant Three Person) Standing Alone, one stepdaughter Liesha Eagle Bear, sons: Benjamin, Gilbert Jr., Mark and Trent Standing Alone, sisters: Susan (Jordon) Bare Shin Bone, Gloria, Winnifred and Crystal Storm, special sister Ruby Medicine Crane, adopted son Jayce Bear whom she helped raise, her adopted daughter Sandra Eagle Child and family. Also survived by her siser-inlaws: Theresa Burnett, Delores Standing Alone, Angela (Lawrance) Big Sorrel Horse, Doris (Leslie) Standing Alone and Lorna (Merlin) Eagle Plume, brother-in-law, Ronald (Rochelle) Cutter, nieces Brittney Medicine Crane, nephews: Alton and Leland Standing Alone, Alroy Jr. Creighton.
Lorna was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta to the late David Storm and Mary Bad Eagle. She attended Crowfoot Residental, Brocket Elementary School, Canyon School in Pincher Creek and Bellview School. During her adult life she completed a Life Skills course on the Blood Reserve, also did some upgrading in an off campus college in Fort Macleod, Alberta where she excelled academically and often had top marks in her class. She enjoyed making friends and was also active in different sports.
Gilbert and Lorna lived in the Belly Butts area on the Blood Reserve for 41 years where they raised their 5 children. She cherished her family and was always there for them. She always made sure they had food and a very clean home. She was an awesome mother and wife throughout her life with Gilbert and her children whom she treasured with all her heart.
Lorna had a caring heart for all whom she met in her journey of life. She always helped in her special way when needed. She met lots of friends in her numerous jobs she had on the Blood Reserve. She was full of kindness, soft spoken, and was always smiling, but was a quiet woman. She really enjoyed cooking and cleaning, was always on the go never resting till her house was clean and her family was fed. She worked for Cardston Youth Centre, Youth Ranch and the latest job was at the Kainaipolasin Day Care.
In Lorna’s leisure time, she loved going to Bingo with her husband and spending time with her children. Lorna was predeceased by her parents David Storm and Mary Bad Eagle, her auntie mom Margret Yellow Horn, sister Colleen Bad Eagle and her in-laws Gilbert Sr. Standing Alone and Mary Standing Alone (Eagle Speaker) and Catherine and Tom Medicine Crane.
Lorna is survived by her families the Bad Eagles, Plain Eagles, Provosts, and English from Pukuni. The Storms, Running Rabbits, Big Snakes and Big Eye from Siksika. Along with her in-laws, Standing Alone, Bull Shields, Medicine Cranes, and Prairie Chicken families.
Throughout Lorna’s lengthy illness, in spite of her limitations she never lost her ability to show her laughter, humour and kindness towards her family and friends.
We the family, would like to thank doctors, nurses and dialysis staffs of the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. We also appreciate and thank the Blood tribe home care staff that took care of her throughout her illness.
The family service will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home on Friday, October 19th, 2018 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The Wake Service will be held at the Old Agency Hall, Blood Reserve from 7:00 - 11:00 p.m. continuing at Gilbert Standing Alone’s residence all night. The Funeral Service will be held at the Old Agency Hall on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at 12:00 p.m.
