Colin was privileged to have two mothers Josie and his auntie Catherine; both had adored him. He was very spoiled by his Aunt Catherine and would boss her around, he had his very own cupboard that she would stock with all of his favourite goodies. No one was allowed to touch this cupboard. When Colin was younger he was a very mischievous boy, he would often steal freshly baked bannock bread that his Mom had just made and would feed it to his big St. Bernard dog.
Colin attended Standoff Elementary School, St. Mary’s High School and was enrolled in various training programs in Standoff and Lethbridge. Colin was a firefighter with the Crowsnest Pass Forestry. His employment in firefighting was mainly in the summer. Colin was a kind, friendly and outgoing individual; he was well liked by all. Colin had many friends, and would always greet you with a smile.
Colin was very proud when his daughter was born, he felt that she brought sunshine into his world. He whole heartedly adored his daughter Talyssa; than came along a special and precious treasure and that was his granddaughter; Taihanna Cashton. He loved them dearly and especially loved spending time with them whenever he could. Because of Colin’s kind and gentle nature, he also had other treasures which were “The Golden Girls”, his mother Josie, Edna Devine and Diane Bird. He always made sure that they were safe especially on the pow-wow trails.
Colin like to cook and clean the house, he could always put together a meal using his favorite spices and he never had to follow a recipe. One thing is for sure, his Mother Josephine did not have to worry about cleaning the house, he did everything for her, even driving Miss Daisy all-over. He was also very particular about his appearance, He took a lot of pride in who he was.
Colin’s passion was playing fast ball and slow pitch, whether his team won or lost, he always made sure to keep the game fun. He always had a positive outlook at every game, always encouraging his team mates, keeping the team calm saying “Its okay, we will get them back next game”. He played for the M & M Eagles in the Lethbridge Fastball League and Softball with the Gumboot Gang. Colin was well known as a homerun hitter. His Cousins and team mates would call him “Ortiz – Big Hitter, Big Hurt or Cess”. Colin was considered the homerun king when he and his team were playing in a tournament in Kamloops, B.C. He travelled to numerous ball tournaments with both of these teams. Recently, Colin considered a new-found passion for golf, he especially enjoyed his time spent golfing with his buddy/cousin Neal. Another hobby of his was horses, he loved to watch horse racing.
